‘This is rubbish’… Aaron Finch on Virat Kohli’s place in the T20 World Cup team

Aaron Finch and Virat Kohli

Former Australian captain Aaron Finch commented on the possible participation of Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup team. Aaron Finch said -‘whenever any ICC event comes, the first thing to be talked about is Virat Kohli. According to me, this whole thing is nonsense. He is one of the greatest players.’

Recently, Virat Kohli was questioned about his T20 approach. Whether it is his style of T20 cricket that became the point of concern or something else, the matter got heated up. There were speculations that he might not play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

However, Kohli gave them answers in his style. After playing a tremendous innings in the match against Punjab Kings in the IPL, Kohli had targeted those who were questioning his way of playing. Kohli said that I know that my name is linked only to promote T20 cricket across the world but I feel that I can still play this format.

After this incident, Many players came in support of Virat Kohli. Now, Aaron Finch has also commented on this topic. He completely rejected the questions being raised about Virat Kohli. While talking with Around the Wicket, Finch said,

Every time any ICC event of any format comes, people start talking about Virat Kohli. They say that Kohli is under pressure regarding his place. I have never heard more nonsense than this in my life. He is the greatest player in white ball cricket. Even though his strike rate is 140, when you build such a team, you will need a player who knows how to finish the match.

On a closer look, it was found that a controversy surrounding Kohli’s presence at the T20 World Cup started after The Telegraph first reported that BCCI management could decide to exclude Kohli from the marquee event, giving way for young blood. Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI announced that Rohit Sharma was captain but no hint of Kohli, who played just two T20Is for India in November of 2022 scoring 29 and 0 runs respectively.

Kohli had a golden IPL last year, making 639 runs which are second best to him, averaging 53.25 runs with a century and six fifties in total. He is already has started this tournament with a strike that can leave any T20I batsman on their knees. All eyes are on the Indian team’s probable playing XI for the T20 World Cup as it is set to be announced by mid-May. Consequently, Kohli might prefer to be more aggressive to finish the season decisively.
