Tamim Iqbal answers critics with a double ton

Tamim Iqbal

Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal has been scoring runs consistently in whichever tournament he is playing. The swashbuckling left-handed batsman maintained an average of almost 40 in the recently concluded 2019-20 edition of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League. He was also brilliant in the T20I series against Pakistan. However, he was still mercilessly criticised off late.

The reason for that is Iqbal’s poor strike rate. Though he piled up runs in the BPL, his strike rate was merely about 100, which is considered as poor in T20Is. Even in the series against Pakistan, his strike rate was less than 120. This led many to question Iqbal’s effectiveness, but he has answered them all with a career-best double ton. Playing for East Zone, he slammed an unbeaten 281-ball 222 against Walton Central Zone in the Walton Bangladesh Cricket League.

Iqbal was aggressive from the very beginning and hit as many as 30 boundaries. There is also another piece of good news for Bangladeshi cricket fanatics. Mominul Haque, who has been selected to lead the national side in Tests against Pakistan, has looked in great touch. He scored 111 runs for East Zone. The Tigers will be hoping that duo will play in this manner against the Pakistanis.

Monimul Haque confident about a triple century

Tamim Iqbal is still unbeaten and needs 78 runs more to score his first-ever triple century. Mominul Haque seems very confident about it, and stated that he wants Iqbal to bat till the declaration of innings. “I would say it was outstanding. I want him to bat till the end. He should play till the declaration of the innings. Till then, he will surely score a triple century. I don’t go for personal goals. When it seems like enough runs for the team, it will be seen whether I declare or not,” said Haque, as per quotes in BD Crictime.
