Sri-Lanka Cricket board demands explaination from players and staff for embarrassing performance in CWC 2023
The Sri-Lankan Cricket Board is demanding for answers from all its players and coaching staff due to their terrible performance in the on-going ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Sri-Lanka are currently placed 7th in the points table with 5 lossess and only 2 wins to their name.
They have 2 more games to play in the League stage against Bangladesh and New Zealand which they would want to win in order to remain in the Top 7. Lanka’s Semi-finale hopes have already been washed out but they will be desparate to grab that one automatic qualification spot for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Runners-up of the 2011 edition, Sri-Lanka’s only 2 wins have come against Netherlands and England. Whereas they have lost to Pakistan, Australia, India, Afghanistan and South Africa. One of the major causes of their dip is because of the number of Injuries they have had to deal with before the tournament as well as mid way through the tournament.
All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out before the tournament itself. Dasun Shanaka, Matheesha Patheerana and Lahiru Kumara sustained injuries in the middle of the tournament which led to the inclusion of Chamika Karunaratne, Angelo Matthews and Dushmantha Chameera as replacements.
Kusal Mendis took over as the Captain but their injury woes kept Sri-Lanka away from performing at their best.
As a result of their poor performance, the Sri-Lankan Cricket board released a statement saying, “The recent overall performance and shocking defeats have raised significant questions about the team’s preparation, strategies and performance. SLC management never interfered with the hired professional staff to carry out their duties and responsibilities as per the norms and regulations. However, SLC firmly believes in accountability, transparency and the importance of addressing subject concerns promptly.”
Meanwhile, Sri-Lanka will take on Bangladesh on November 6 at Delhi and New Zealand on November 9 at Bengaluru.
