Dale Steyn not included in the 2020-21 annual contract by CSA

Dale Steyn

It came as a huge shock to him as the South African bowler, Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) contract for the new season of 2020-21 and has been replaced by the newbie, Beuran Hendricks, which is his very first contract after his debut last year.

Senior players like Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock has been retained and given the 12-month contract for the various formats of the game.

The CSA put out the list of the Standard Bank Proteas Men’s squad and Momentum Proteas National Women’s squad payers to handover the contract for the new season.

On March 19, Dale Steyn had tweeted about winning another game and reaching the finals of the Pakistan Super League but had to return back due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country and globally.

The CSA has contracted 16 players for the men’s team and has kept the vacancy for the 17th player vacant, commenting upon which the CSA Acting Chief Executive, Dr. Jacques Faul said, ”We have decided to keep the 17th men’s contract open for the moment and players can qualify for it through performance.”

For the men’s team, their Australia tour for the ICC Men’s T20 World is the most important event during their contract apart from their various home series including the test matches against Australia and T20 matches versus India and tours away from their homeland in West Indies and England.

Steyn had played his last ODI on 13th March 2019 against Sri Lanka, after which he made a comeback in the international cricket in February this year and played three T20Is against Australia and England. He was very much wishing his spot in the new contract but the result turned out to be otherwise. Steyn has played in 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20I matches, taking 439, 196 and 64 wickets respectively.
