India vs Sri lanka ODI: Is Dasun Shanaka properly utilised by his national team?

Sri lankan skipper and all rounder Dasun Shanaka is no doubt a class player. He is going through a good form that he showed by scoring a ton against India in the last ODI. Dasun made 108 not out off just 88 deliveries while chasing India’s total of 373 runs. Although, Sri lanka lost the match but Dasun made his team stand in a fighting position and lead his team’s total 306/8 to finish off. Finally, India won the match by 67 runs.

This knock dignifies that Dasun is capable of playing in under pressure conditions as well. His overall career stats are also quite impressive. But, then a question comes, that despite being such a class player and also the skipper of the Sri lankan team, why dasun comes to bat in the lower middle order of the team. Currently, Shanaka comes at no. 6 to bat in the team which is not appropriate according to his class.

If, Dasun comes to bat early, then it would give a great start to Sri Lanka as the runs are coming from his bat. Being a captain of the team he can also experiment in the playing order for the betterment of the team.

Another, surprising factor is that despite having a lot of potential, Shanaka is not picked by any of the franchise in IPL for this season. His performances in t20 format had also been quite impressive and comes in the list of A class players. Thus, he deserves a lot more according to the playing aptitude he carries.
