Sarfaraz Khan: A Test Prodigy Again Overlooked By Selectors

Born in 1997, Sarfaraz Naushad Khan is an Indian cricketer actively for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Sarfaraz Khan has consistently been amassing runs in domestic cricket over the past few seasons.

Despite his impressive performances, he was overlooked for the Bangladesh tour and the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Many believed he would be included in the Test team for the West Indies tour, considering his potential. However, the Indian selectors have once again overlooked this test prodigy.

Sunil Gavaskar Expressed his frustration

Renowned cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has posed a poignant question: “What more Sarfaraz Khan needs to do to earn a spot in the team.” During an interview with ‘Sports Tak,’ Gavaskar highlighted “Sarfaraz Khan’s exceptional run-scoring record, averaging around 100 runs over the past three seasons”. Gavaskar questioned the selectors that “while Sarfaraz may not secure a place in the playing 11, he should have been considered for the India Tour of West Indies team”.

Sunil Gavaskar asks to discontinue Ranji Trophy

Sunil Gavaskar suggests that Sarfaraz Khan should feel that his performances are acknowledged and valued. However, if that recognition is lacking, stop playing in the Ranji Trophy. Gavaskar asserts that if securing a place in the Test team is solely based on performing well in the IPL, then the Ranji Trophy must be discontinued.

Sunil Gavaskar has strongly criticized the national selectors for their decision to exclude Cheteshwar Pujara from the squad and to overlook Sarfaraz Khan, who has been consistently performing well in domestic cricket. Gavaskar referred to Pujara as a ‘scapegoat’ and expressed his dissatisfaction with the selectors’ choices for the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies.
