Pakistan Miff with Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s U turn statement

The Sri Lanka tour was seen as breaking the ice tour in Pakistan, after all, it is the first time a permanent test member side toured Pakistan in the last 10 years. Several controversies aroused before the tour, several Sri Lankan players were quite vocal about the security, but finally, issues were resolved and Sri Lanka toured Pakistan.

The Sri Lanka tour kicked off on a positive note for Pakistan after Pakistan registered ODI series win 2-0, but Sri Lanka bounced back in T20 series and whitewashed Pakistan. The likes of Danushka Gunathilaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Oshada Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga and of-course their skipper Dasun Shanaka set the pitch on fire with their outstanding performances.

The number 1 T20 team Pakistan was thrashed by number 8 Sri Lankan team. Following the series win Danushka Gunathilaka, other players, as well as its Board President, severely criticized the security provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The criticism was seen as a U-turn by Sri Lankan cricket board president Shammi Silva while returning home, he said “The players had to stay inside the hotel. I got fed up staying for three or four days. We have to talk to the players & support staff & see how this will affect the Test series.”

However the statement was indigestible for Pakistan cricket board, who left no stones unturned in bringing international cricket back to the country, but despite all efforts, the board looked miffed with the remarks.

“The PCB is very disappointed and hurt over such comments as presidential level security was provided to the visiting team on the insistence of their board. We wanted to make their stay as comfortable as possible,” a PCB source said as quoted by Sportstar.

The source further stated PCB gave SLC officials and the players the chance of going out for shopping or playing golf, but “confined to hotel” statement is unjustified.

Sri Lanka will next play against Australia in a 3 T20 match series in Australia starting from October 27.
