England batsman Dawid Malan stated in recent post-day 2 conferences at Headingley that he is certainly going to IPL and he is slightly unsure about going for World Cup as well as Ashes that will take place later this year.
Malan will certainly take part in the second leg of the cash-rich league that will start from 19th September in UAE for Punjab Kings. The strange thing about Malan statement despite being the number 1 ranked T20 batsman in the world he is not sure about making his place in England playing X1 when it comes to T20 format which clearly indicates the bench strength of this current England team possess for the shortest format of the game under the leadership of Eoin Morgan.
“The only guarantee we have at the moment is IPL — we don’t know if we’re going to the World Cup and we don’t know if we’re going to the Ashes, so it leaves us in quite a tough situation. I think all possibilities but at the moment I’m committed to the IPL. Yeah that’s where I am at the moment. Nothing sort of changed at the moment, maybe we can reassess,” he said at a virtual press conference after the second day’s play.
He also added that he won’t want to miss any chance of not playing in IPL’s second leg as it might hamper his chances of not getting selected in the T20 World Cup and also both the events are scheduled at the same place so this logic seems pretty evident.
“Say you give up the IPL and you don’t get picked for either of the England squads, then you’ve given up the IPL. There is no guarantees at the moment, it (Ashes) is still a long way to go. There is five innings left in the Test series so far.
“…or if you go to IPL and then you get selected after you’ve gone to IPL, then you’re sat in the bubble for five-and-a-half months. Hopefully we can get some answers and we can find some time to get a rest out of these bubbles,” Malan added.
