Olympic Medalist Arshad Nadeem Presents the ICC Champions Trophy Ahead of the 2nd Semi-Final
Pakistan’s Javelin thrower and Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem was seen representing his country as he carried the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy before the start of the One-Day International (ODI) second semi-final match between New Zealand versus South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
He was seen bringing the coveted trophy to the centre-stage ahead of the much-anticipated clash, which will determine the second finalist joining India in the finals. The visual spectacle of a celebrated player carrying the trophy along with the Emirates ambassadors has become viral on social media, with Nadeem trending due to his unexpected appearance.

Arshad Nadeem scripted history when he became Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medalist and the country’s first athletics medalist at the Summer Games in 2024. He is the first track and field athlete to win an Olympic medal, at an impressionable age of mere 28 years.
The javelin thrower dominated the Paris 2024 final, setting an Olympic and an Asian record of 92.97 metres — 3.52 metres ahead of defending champion Neeraj Chopra, who took home the silver medal with his throw of 89.45 metres.
He is the reigning Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion and the current silver medalist in the World Athletics Championship.
The fifty-over ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is the first time Pakistan has hosted a global event since 1996, after a hiatus of 29 long years. However, Pakistan will not host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final despite the hosts as India’s qualification has made Dubai the neutral venue, as mentioned in the agreement of the hybrid model prior to start of the tournament.

The underlying political tensions between India and Pakistan have kept them away from not playing in Pakistan since 2008.With India qualifying for the finals in this edition, the penultimate clash will be held in Dubai on March 9 and can be live streamed on the Jio Hotstar platform.
With admirable players from other sports coming to the forefront and getting recognition on a wider platform, Arshad Nadeem’s appearance before a high-profile match has set an example for other sportspersons to follow through and make the nation swell with pride.
As for the ongoing match between the two strong semi-finalists, New Zealand look comfortable with their batting and have scored 264 runs in 43 overs, with four wickets lost so far. The better side between the Kiwis and the Proteas will face India in the clash of the titan’s finale and claim their dominance on the prized possession of being the true Champions.
