New India- Pakistan Sporting Rivalry: Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem how they have shifted attention of Fans from Cricket to Javelin?

Indo- Pak Sports rivalry is the most talked about topic in the Sporting Fraternity as the clash between these two teams in the cricketing spectacle is not less than a war.

Fans from both sides doesn’t want to lose against each other, and the moment one loses against the other, fans on social media never fails an opportunity to troll fans from the losing side.

The sporting rivalry in Cricket has been shifted to another popular athletic sport Javelin, where Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem are the new stars from the respective nation who never fails an opportunity to entertain crowd from both sides of the border.

Paris olympics 2024 recently concluded final in Javelin throw was seriously one of the best tournament considering the amount of fierce rivalry it brought on the field.

Nadeem made early inroads, by throwing 92.97 metre which ultimately added pressure on last edition Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra who clocked 89.45 metre in his second attempt.

Arshad Nadeem vs Neeraj Chopra

Pakistan have only sent 7 players in the Olympics and Nadeem being the lone warrior has managed to win Gold medal for his country.

In retrospect, Neeraj Chopra became the 2nd Indian Male Individual Athlete, to bag 2 medals in the Olympics.

If Chopra keeps himself fit for next edition considering his age (26 years) he can potentially turn out to be next superstar for the country who can possibly win 3 medals in a row  in 3 successive edition.

India have currently won 5 medals in Olympics which in itself is worst as compare to Last Olympics which was held in Tokyo 2020 where they successfully clinched 7 medals.

There have been investment by Sports Authority of India along with Ministry of Sports, but still Indian players need to calm their nerves when it comes to executing their skills in the penultimate hours of the game.

You can watch all the matches live on Sports 18 channel and the same will be streamed on Jio Cinema app.

Team India, whether in individual or mixed events, must capitalize on crucial moments to execute their strategies effectively when it matters most.

To enhance this capability, it is recommended that a psychologist be assigned to every athlete under the Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS). This would provide them with real-time experience in managing high-pressure situations during competition, significantly bolstering their mental resilience.

India has made considerable strides in terms of physicality and skill. However, to fully realize its potential on the global stage, the nation must deepen its understanding of the psychological aspects of sports. By focusing on this, India can pave the way toward winning more medals for the country.

Note: The Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS) is an initiative by the Ministry of Sports that identifies athletes with the potential to win Olympic medals. Once selected, these athletes receive comprehensive support, including training, diet, and coaching. Neeraj Chopra, one of India’s most successful athletes, is a prime example of this scheme’s success.

The Indian government, through initiatives like the Khelo India Youth Games and the Khelo India University Games, has also been instrumental in identifying and nurturing talent from the grassroots level. These platforms provide young athletes with the opportunity to showcase their abilities in prestigious events, eventually advancing to represent the country in larger, international competitions.
