Novak Djokovic Eyeing Margaret Court’s Impressive Record

Margaret Court is the one to beat when it comes to Grand Slam successes, with the Australian tennis star securing 24th major titles during her illustrious career.

However, Novak Djokovic has the record firmly in his sights and the Serbian star is aiming to leapfrog that record before he calls time on his own impressive career.

Djokovic Chasing Fourth Flushing Meadows Title

Djokovic is aiming to go level with Court’s all-time record at the US Open this year in New York City, with the 36-year-old at +100 in the tennis bets market to claim a fourth title at Flushing Meadows this season. The veteran came close to landing a fourth crown in New York in 2021 but lost out in the final to the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who himself is +1000 in the betting on Men’s US Open market to claim the title. Both players are contenders for the US Open crown this year and it looks set to be an intriguing battle to see if one can go all the way.

Djokovic has had a difficult time at the US Open in the past, despite his liking for hard court surfaces. The Belgrade star has managed to claim 10 titles on the hard courts of Melbourne in the Australian Open but the major at Flushing Meadows has proved to be more difficult over the years. Considering the success Djokovic has enjoyed at the other Grand Slam events, he does tend to play many more games than rival players over the course of the season. Perhaps those extra matches out on the court have caught up with him at times at the US Open, which tends to have hot and humid conditions in the Big Apple near the end of a long campaign.

Djokovic Determined To Get Back On Track

Having won both the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year, world No.1 Djokovic found himself once again on course for a clean sweep of the Grand Slam events. The Serb went painfully close to achieving the feat in 2021 before that dramatic defeat to Medvedev in the US Open final. Djokovic’s hopes of finally landing a clean sweep this year were dashed with defeat in the final at Wimbledon.

Looking to get back to winning ways in Grand Slam finals, Djokovic will have quickly switched his attentions to Flushing Meadows and the US Open. Winning the event in 2011, 2015 and 2018, Djokovic knows what it takes to go all the way and win in New York. The veteran continues to defy the years and is once again a serious contender for the title in the final major event of the year, before returning to his beloved Australian Open in January. Aussie legend Court managed to win five US Open titles between 1962 and 1973 during her outstanding career. Like Djokovic, Court also enjoyed the majority of her success in Melbourne, winning the Australian Open on 11 occasions.

Djokovic has done remarkably well to chase down Court’s record and will be determined to equal the 24-title tally in New York this year.
