Marco Reus, the German midfielder lavished praise on his new Borussia Dortmund team-mate and striker, Erling Haaland, and the Dortmund loyal is convinced that the club has not had a player like him since the departure of Robert Lewandowski.
The likes of Adrian Ramos, Ciro Immobile and Michy Batshuayi have all been and gone as Dortmund’s style of play has been chopped and changed since the days of Jürgen Klopp‘s heavy metal football.
Borussia Dortmund beat a number of European giants like Manchester United and Juventus to the signing of the Norwegian striker, who has scored 28 goals in 22 matches already this season. Dortmund reportedly saw off competition from a host of major European clubs to land the young Norwegian striker, who joined at the start of this month after his move was confirmed in December.
The BVB captain is happy with the signing of Haaland, who has been brought in from RB Salzburg, and believes the 19-year-old will give the team an extra dimension.
“He’s very open-minded and it’s important to get to know everyone first — a training camp like this is ideal,”
Talking to Sky Deutschland, Marco Reus said;
“Now it’s about getting really fit, arriving properly. It will take time, we’ll give it to him. He just gives us another input, another way we can play.”
“He’s a very open guy. First of all, it’s important to get to know him. He gives us another way of playing and we have to be able to work with him, too, and bring out all his strengths. But that will all come about in time.”
The goal this season remains the same: to win the title. Something they achieved twice in a row with Lewandowski playing upfront. The arrival of Haaland gives Dortmund another dimension to their squad, one that could possibly play a pivotal role in where BVB ends up in the table come to the end of 2019/20.
Reus said,
“If you look at our squad, what more could you ask for in terms of quality?”
“We have to show it on the pitch, then our squad can take us anywhere. We’ve got a very good striker and new options, therefore, we’re in a good place.
“[Winning the title] is as realistic as it was at the start of the season. I wouldn’t say it’s in our own hands, but we’re definitely in the right place to fight back. Don’t forget about Dortmund now [in the title race].”
