Lovlina Borgohain Personal Life

Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohain was born on 2nd October 1997 in a small village named Baromukhia, Golaghat district of Assam. Lovlina Borgohain did her education at Golaghat’s Barpathar Girls High School.

At the age of 13, Lovlina Borgohain started training in combat sports as she looked up to her two elder sisters who were training for kickboxing. Although, after she switched to boxing.

Once Sports Authority of India held trials for women’s boxing at her school just when Lovlina Borgohain’s real story of boxing started. 

A homegrown boxer, Padam Boro noticed Lovlina Boroghain for the very first time at the trails. Padam was impressed with Lovlina’s skills and the height advantage made her more lethal. Padam Boro selected Lovlina for the trails and started training her.

Raised from a poor background in Assam, Lovlina Borgohain was born to Tiken and Mamoni Borgohain. Lovlina’s father made many sacrifices for her dreams to come true. As having three daughters and being the only earner in the family. Financially the family was struggling but Lovlina’s father did anything possible for Lovlina to get the best training.

The player was spotted by Padum Chandra Bodo which kickstarted her career. Sandhya Gurung coached Lovlina in the later stage of her career.

The Indian woman boxer, Lovlina Borgohain, was one of the unknown names until she booked her place in the record books of India and the World. India were thirsty in the Tokyo Olympics to win the medal and the renowned names had failed to win anything substantial. It was Lovlina Borgohain who took everyone by surprise when she won the bronze medal.

Although, Lovlina Borgohain made her international debut in 2017 and also claimed the bronze medal in the 75 kg category at the President Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan

In 2018, Indian boxer Lovlian Borgohain won her maiden international gold medal at the inaugural India Open International boxing in New Delhi. she also made her debut at the Commonwealth Games 2018. 

Lovlina Borgohain also claimed a silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Cup held in Mongolia. 

The boxer from Golaghat, Assam rose to the occasion for the nation when she won the bronze medal in back-to-back AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2018 and 2019.

Lovlina Borgohain Commonwealth Games 2022 Controversy

Just a few days away from the Commonwealth Games 2022 and the Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain drops A bomb on Commonwealth Games authorities.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain alleged that her training and preparation for the commonwealth games are being slowed down because of the “Mental Harassment” her coaches are facing from commonwealth games authorities.

To the reports, the Indian boxing team reached the Birmingham commonwealth games village but Lovlina’s personal coach, Sandhya Gurung could not enter the venue since she does not have proper authorization.

However, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain wanted her personal coach, Amey Kolekar with her during the commonwealth games but he did not feature in the coaches’ long list.

Lovlina Borgohain revealed her anger in a Twitter post, As the Indian Boxer wrote, 

“Today with a lot of grief, I want to tell everyone about the continuous harassment going on with me. The coaches who helped me win an Olympic medal are always being side-lined which has severely impacted my training schedule,” 

“One of the coaches is Sandhya Gurungji, who is a Dronacharya awardee. I had to plead with folded hands to get my coaches included in the contingent. I am feeling mentally harassed because of this ordeal,” she posted.

“Right now, my coach Sandhya Gurung is standing outside the CWG village and not being allowed to enter. Just eight days before the start of my event, my training schedule has been hampered. My other coach has been sent back to India,” she said.

Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohain that she faced the same situation before the World Championship held in Istanbul and now she knows something the same will occur at the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022.

“I don’t understand how will I focus on the Games (CWG) amidst all this? My world championships also suffered because of this. I don’t want my CWG to be affected due to politics. Hoping I will overcome this politics and win a medal for my country. Jai Hind,” she wrote.

Lovlina Borgohain Family

Lovlina Borgohain was born to Tiken and Mamoni Borgohain. Tiken Borgohain was a small-scale businessman who struggled to support the talent financially.

Lovlina Borgohain is the youngest of all three sisters. Her sister’s name is Licha Borgohain and Lima Borgohain, Both the elder sisters took up kickboxing.

Lovlina Borgohain won the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the women’s welterweight 69 kg category.

At the 2018 Women’s World Boxing Championships, an Indian boxer won the bronze medal.

In the next year of 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Lovlina Borgohain again won the Bronze medal.    

Lovlina won the gold medal at the 1st India Open International Boxing tournament held in New Delhi.

In her 2nd edition of Indian Open International Boxing, Lovlina Borgohain clinched the Silver medal in the tournament held in Guwahati.

In 2020, Lovlina Borgohain was awarded the Arjuna Award by the Sports Ministry’s selection committee.

Indian woman boxer, Lovlina Borgohain was the third Indian boxer to win a medal at Olympics. The first two boxers were Vijender Singh and Mary Kom.
