Lockie Ferguson Set To Make Test Debut Against England

After a 3-year long wait, Lockie Ferguson is finally in contention to make his test debut for New Zealand as he has been named in the 15-member Blackcaps squad for the first test match against England.

Ferguson had made his international debut against Australia in 2016 and since then, he has been an integral part of the limited-over side of New Zealand. He was amongst the top wicket-takers during the World Cup 2019 bagging 21 wickets in 9 matches at an impressive average of 19.48.

The 28-year old has been knocking the doors of the test team for a while now and now, the team management and the selectors have decided to bring him into the test fold.

He looked in good touch with the ball during the T20I series against England and will be eager to carry that form to the test arena.

Lockie Ferguson’s strength is his pace. He doesn’t move the ball as much as some of the other Kiwi pacers, but he can rattle any batsman in the world with his speed. He consistently bowls in the high 140s and has got a very sharp bouncer as well.

As far as his first class career is concerned, Ferguson has taken 153 wickets in 42 matches at an average of 24.30.

“There’s no doubt Lockie has been knocking on the door for a while now and we’re delighted to finally bring him into the Test fold.”, the New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen told the reporters.

“It’s well documented he has raw pace, but he also possesses a quality bowling skillset and has proved his durability. He showed good form against England in the recent T20 series and backed that up with a solid outing for the Auckland Aces in the Plunket Shield, where he claimed 4 for 23 against the Wellington Firebirds.” Larsen further added.

The New Zealand kipper Kane Williamson is also going to make a comeback to the test team after missing the T20I series due to hip injury
