Karan KC

Karan Kumar Chhetri., a Nepalese professional cricket player, was born on October 10, 1991. In August 2018, against the Netherlands, he was one of the eleven cricketers who competed in Nepal’s inaugural One Day International (ODI) game.

Early Career

In the final match of the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two, played on February 14 in Windhoek, Namibia, Karan Kumar led Nepal to a one-wicket victory over Canada. With the win, Nepal was guaranteed a spot in the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which will take place in March in Zimbabwe.

Right-handed batter Karan also bowls right-arm Fast-Medium. He debuted for Nepal in January 2015 against Uganda.

He represents the Pentagon International College team which competes in the SPA Cup, Zone No. 8 Pokhara of the National League and Panchkanya Tej of the Everest Premier League. In the 2016 season of the Everest Premier League, he played for Panchakanya Tej.

Playing Cricket Career

Karan was raised in Chandigarh, India, after being born in Baglung.

In the 2014 Nepal Premier League, he played for Panchakanya Tej and amassed 10 wickets from 7 games at an average of 13.40.

He was chosen for the 18-man preliminary team for Division Three of the 2014 ICC World Cricket League, but he was left off the final roster. Thereafter, Chhetri traveled to India in September 2014 for a 10-day training camp at the Just Cricket Academy in Bangalore along with his teammate Arif Sheikh.

In November 2014, he traveled to Sri Lanka with the team and competed in two three-day games against the Sri Lanka Cricket Combined XI.

In his first tournament for Nepal, he recorded the highest bowling statistics of any Nepalese bowler in the List A format, taking 9 wickets in 6 matches at a five-wicket haul against Canada, an economy of 3.31, and an average of 15.88.

On June 30, 2015, he made his Nepalese Twenty20 debut against the Netherlands.

In the crucial game against Canada, Karan hit 42 runs and was unbroken, enabling Nepal to win on the very last ball. Nepal was able to enter the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier thanks to their victory. He and Sandeep Lamichhane’s 51-run last-wicket partnership earned him the title of the game’s top performer.

Karan Kumar was a part of the Nepalese cricket team for their One Day International (ODI) series against the Netherlands in July 2018. Following their promotion to the ODI format during the 2018 Cricket World Cup qualifiers, Nepal participated in their first of these matches. He played his first ODI for Nepal against the Netherlands on August 1.

He was included on Nepal’s team for the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier competition in August of that year. In October 2018, Chhetri was selected for the Nepal squad in the East sub-zonal group for the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier competition. Karan Kumar Chhetri was a part of the Nepal National Cricket Team for the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier competition in June 2019. He was included in the Nepalese team in September 2019 for the Oman Pentangular Series and the Singapore Tri-Nation Series. He grabbed four wickets for 17 runs in the Pentangular Series encounter against the Netherlands, where he also played the game-winning 31-run innings.

On November 6, 2019, while the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was touring Nepal, Karan Chhetri made his first-class debut for Nepal against them. He was included in Nepal’s squads later that month for both the cricket competition at the 2019 South Asian Games and the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh. After defeating the Maldivian team by a margin of five wickets in the third-place playoff game, the Nepalese cricket team won the bronze medal. Karan Kumar Chhetri was one of the 18 cricketers who received a central contract from the Cricket Association of Nepal in September 2020.
