Joao Felix becomes the second Premier League player to be sent off on Debut

Portuguese International Joao Felix becomes the first player since Federico Fazio to get sent off in Premier League debut. The 22-year-old was playing his first match for the North-London outfit after his loan move from Atletico Madrid.

He started the game alongside Kai Havertz in the wing and he was expected to play a crucial role in the team. Chelsea’s attacking woes have not been fully countered as summer signing Pierre Emrick Aubameyang has been unable to shine at the Stamford Bridge. Their defeat last night against Fulham was their 3rd loss in last 5 PL fixtures.

To curb that issue, Joao Felix was brought into the team on loan for 11 Million Euros. The Blues will have to pay 714,286 Euros per game to Felix and their expenses increased a little more after he was send off for a cruel challenge in the 58th minute.

Chelsea will have to pay at least another 2 Million Euros and see Felix on the bench for the next three PL games due to the Portuguese’s challenge on Fulham’s Kenny Tete. Chelsea’s new manager Graham Potter will now be under immense pressure as his side is now winless in last 3 games and they are already out of FA Cup, Carabao Cup and are 10th in the Premier League.

They are not playing with uniformity in the attacking lines and stats suggests that they have averaged 1.47 points per game and only 1.17 Goals per game. They also have the 16th lowest shots per game with 10.

After selling Timo Werner, the Blues signed Raheem Sterling in the summer from Manchester City but he hasn’t clicked either at the Stamford bridge. For all those reasons, Joao Felix was thought to be an option who can shine among their under performing attacker.

He was in red-hot form before club football resumed in December. He showed his improved game-play during the 2022 FIFA World Cup where he had 3 G/A. Moreover, his degrading relationship with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone aided for his move to England.

But after what was proving to be a decent debut, Felix had to go off for his improper challenge. He joins Tottenham Hostspur’s Federico Fazio to become only the second Premier League player to be shown a straight red card in his first match.
