Joao Felix is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as attacking midfielder for the Portugal National team and the Spanish Team Atletico Madrid. He received his initial training at Porto’s youth academy before moving to rivals Benfica in 2015. Felix made his club debut at the age of 18 in 2018, and helped the club to win the league title in his very first season. He emerged as the top goal scorer of the season for which he was awarded as the league’s best Young Player of the Year. After netting a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League, he became the youngest ever player who did it just at the age of 19.

Felix’s fine run saw Atletico Madrid break the record for him to replace Antoine Griezmann, paying € 126,00 Million for the Portuguese. He is now among the most expensive players in the World.

Felix was born on 10th November 1999 at Viseu in Portugal, to Carla Felix and Carlos Felix. He was the second child born to his parents. While growing up, Felix began playing with the ball as soon as he learnt to walk, and his mother even termed his affection for football as ‘addiction to the ball’. Young Felix (then) spent most of his time either playing football inside his house or would spend time watching the youngsters train in different sports at Pestinhas School in Tondel, Portugal. In 2007, he was enrolled in the school’s football team, from where he started to receive his initial training, determined to become a successful player he took admission at the Porto academy where he spends five years in proper training, polishing, and learning skills.

Felix debuted for the Benfica’s reserve team in Liga Pro at the 83rd minute replacing Aurelio Buta against Freamunde. In the season he played 13 matches and scored three goals, his most remarkable performance was then, when he scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win against Famalicao. In the 2016-17 season, he played the UEFA Youth League in which under his assistance the team reached to the finals, but unfortunately lost to Red Bull Salzburg by 2-1, in the tournament he netted three goals. Due to his performances, he was promoted to Benfica’s first team selected for the 2018-19 season.

The major incident that took place which made Felix a poignant for the rivals, when Felix netted a hat-trick in a 4-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in UEFA Europa League. After this he became the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the competition, breaking MarkoPjaca’s record by 67 days. In the end, he finished the season with 20 goals which also include the goal he netted on the final day of the league against Santa Clara. Across Europe’s seven best leagues he ranked second teenagers leaving behind Kai Havertz and Jadon Sancho. On 3rd July 2019, he signed a seven-year contract with Spanish club Atletico Madrid for 126 million Euros which made him the third-highest ever paid footballer after Kilian Mbappe. In the team, he was given the jersey number 7 which was previously worn by the legendary player Antoine Griezmann. On 19th August he made his first competitive debut in a match against Getafe that his team won by 1-0, he netted his first La Liga goal on 1st September 2019 in a 3-2 victory against Eibar.
