BCCI likely to ask Dream11 to revisit bids for 2021 and 2022

BCCI

Fantasy gaming Platform, Dream 11, bagged the title sponsor of IPL 2020 for 222 crores, surpassing the other bids by big margins. BCCI is still in discussion with Dream 11 so that they can give the title sponsorship to Dream 11 for upcoming 2 editions in cases VIVO didn’t come back next year.

According to BCCI sources, this is the main reason they have not announced Dream 11 as the title sponsor of IPL 2020 even though league chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed this on Tuesday.

According to latest reports, BCCI and DREAM 11 are still negotiating for upcoming three year bids where the latter has to pay Rs 240 crore in case the Chinese phone manufacturer VIVO does not make a comeback next year.

It was always clear that the highest bidder may not get the title rights (it was specified by the BCCI before accepting the Expression of Interest from bidders),” a veteran BCCI official, privy to the development, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Having said that, Dream11 has bid the highest and are still favourites to get it, a few issues are still being ironed out before an official announcement comes,” he added.

It is learnt that the constant discussion between BCCI and Dream 11 is to increase the bidding amount for the upcoming next two editions.

If it’s for only year 2020, then Rs 222 crore works fine. But it was a conditional bid for three years. We still have our deal with Vivo on,” he said.

We haven’t closed it as it’s a pause. If we are getting Rs 440 crore, why will we settle for Rs 240 crore?” the official asked.

Considering the current scenario fantasy league platform has two options either they can just focus to become the title sponsor for this year of IPL 2020 or they have to increase their amount so that they can retain the title sponsorship till 2022.
