IPL 2023 : Sunil Gavaskar bashes CSK for using Ambati Rayudu as the Impact player!

Sunil Gavaskar Has A Big Question On India's XI In WTC Final Against Australia! Read complete story

Cricketers on the Chennai Super Kings are playing their first IPL season this year, not just MS Dhoni. Ambati Rayudu is in the latter stages of his career, but compared to Dhoni, he is not performing at his peak level with the bat. The former Indian cricketer’s 83 runs in eight games during the IPL 2023, at an average of 16.60, is the lowest total of his 14-year career in the lucrative league.

He has primarily been employed by CSK as a hitter or an Impact Player in this season of the IPL. It was the same on Thursday when the Rajasthan Royals visited Jaipur. Aakash Singh, a left-arm bowler, was replaced by Rayudu as an impact player. But the right-handed was ineffective.

As the No. 4 batter in CSK’s 203-run pursuit, Rayudu attempted to play a huge shot against RR off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin but was dismissed for a second-ball duck. He attempted a powerful slog sweep but failed to time it properly, holeing up at deep mid-wicket.

The shot lacked any oomph. The fact that Rayudu had not yet participated in the game, according to great Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, was one of the main causes. He didn’t play defence and was selected as an impact player, so it’s likely he wasn’t adequately warmed up.

“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck.” – said Sunil Gavaskar on air.Β

Meanwhile if we talk about the match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings then Sanju Samson’s side after winning the toss opted to bat first and posted a mammoth total of 202 runs through Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 77 off 43 balls and Dhruv Jurel’s quickfire 34 off 15.

In response, CSK were able to get as close as 170 all thanks to Rajasthan’s Adam Zampa, Ravi Ashwin and Sandeep Sharma’s economical bowling.
