IPL 2023 : Kumar Sangakkara backs Riyan Parag through his lean patch! Says RR will find a “way out” for him.

Inaugural IPL winners Rajasthan Royals suffered a tough loss by a margin of 10-runs to the hands of KL Rahul led Lucknow Super Giants. Sanju Samson’s side welcomed LSG at their home – Sawai Mansingh Stadium for the first time this season and it wasn’t the result that the runners-up of last season outfit would have expected.

It was a low scoring affair and the match was yet again decided in the final over of the match. After Batting first, LSG defended a total of 155 in 20 overs with enroute tight bowling performances from Naveen-Ul-Haq, Avesh Khan, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi.

Amid LSG’s bowling performance, RR Batter Riyan Parag was the man on focus. He had a golden opportunity to redeem himself last night had he finished off the match for Rajasthan but he failed to provide an impact once again. For a fact, Parag is being constantly backed by the Royals’ management and the 21-year-old failed to repay the favor for even once this season.

The Assam born batter during the most crucial stage scored just 15 off 12 with a 4 and a 6. He could have eased a lot of pressure on him if he delivered a match winning knock and Rajasthan’s Head coach & Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara suggested that his form will be assessed during the training sessions.

Parag has been batting well in the nets. We do back our players quite well, especially when he comes in as an impact sub for us or DDP (Devdutt Padikkal) comes in as an impact substitute. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been in good form. We will assess that and address that at his training and see where we get to over the next few games.” – Sangakkara told sportzcraazy.

The Sri-Lankan legend also slammed Rajasthan’s inability to counter opposition bowlers especially in the middle overs, stating that there was a lack of commitment among the batters to build up on the start Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave.

“At the back end, especially (Ravi) Bishnoi’s last over, we weren’t committed enough to take him down look for three four sixes.” – Sangakkara concluded.Â
