IND Vs AUS 3rd Test : Matthew Hayden and Mark Waugh slam Indore pitch!

The former Aussie legends labels the Holkar track as “Not up-to Test standards”

Australia have staged an outstanding comeback in the 3rd Test of the Border-gavaskar trophy 2022/23 after losing the first 2 Tests on Day 3. The Indore test is a must win game for Australia for their own pride but their victory would mean India will have to wait for the 4th Test at Ahmedabad to reach the ICC World Test championship final at Oval.

Winning the series by a margin of 3-1 or 4-0 is the only way Rohit Sharma’s side can book back-to-back WTC final spots. In the previous final, India lost to New Zealand at Lord’s but this year, the Indian team will look to put their trophy drought to an end if they stop the Baggy greens from winning the 3rd and 4th test.

A lot of questions have been raised around the condition of the pitch at Holkar stadium which is producing way too much of spin with minimal bounce on offer as well. India after a low first inning total, folded out for 163, giving Australia a target of 76 runs only.

Nathan Lyon took 8 wickets in the 2nd innings and only a magical bowling performance will save the game for India. Coming back to the pitch, 2 former Australian batting greats – Matthew Hayden and Mark Waugh have slammed the unplayable track at Holkar saying it is a mayhem of a pitch.

He also slammed the pitch curator and labelled the pitch as not up to the mark for the longest format of cricket. “The pitch was not up to Test standard, I think that’s a fair thing to say. Balls going through the top (layer) in the first 20 minutes of a test match, that’s not good enough.”

Matthew Hayden on the other hand said that the track is without any reasons favoring spin bowlers way too much. “It shouldn’t be a spin bowler’s paradise necessarily, it shouldn’t be keeping low and turning a mile on day one.”

The 3rd test is once again on the verge of a day 3 end and on that note, Hayden said – “You’re allowed to have a four or five day test match! Otherwise, just call it as it is, we’ll just play three-dayers.”
