The International Cricket Council will hold yet another virtual meeting on Thursday and the point of discussion majorly will be the nomination process for the upcoming ICC president.

Given that the current ICC chairman Shashank Manohar is not willing to extend his tenure from July onwards, the board members need to finalize the nomination process through which they will decide the next ICC President.

As per the reports, England and Cricket Board(ECB) chairman, Collin Graves appears to be the front runner as Pakistan Chairman Ehsan Mani has said that he doesn’t want to lead ICC and is happy to serve Pakistan cricket at the moment.

Sourav Ganguly

There are speculations that the current BCCI president and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly can be a strong candidate to lead ICC. However, there is a catch that he needs to ease his cooling period from BCCI and finally, the call will be taken by the Supreme Court of India that whether they are granting permission to BCCI to ease Ganguly’s tenure as a President or not.

One of the BCCI officials clarified this while talking to Sportstar, saying

“It’s too early to comment on anything. As of now, there is nothing. The board has to finalize the nomination process first and things would be decided over time,”.

To be eligible to handle the ICC Chairman post, a member is required to attain a minimum of two board meetings. The person should be nominated by the present or past director of his country.

As ICC Board members comprise 12 test playing nations, three associate members, independent female director Indra Nooyi and Chief executive Manu Sawhney will not vote in case the election happens.

ICC will also take a call on the future of the T20 World Cup, which is supposed to take place in Australia in October-Window, on 1st July.
