Where is the BCCI headquarter located?

BCCI’s headquarter is located in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Before 2006, BCCI headquarter was located in a small one-and-a-half room near to Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.

What is BCCI’S full form?

BCCI’s full form is the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Likewise, the abbreviation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is BCCI.

Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly is the current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

It is also important to understand that the BCCI is not a government body as it manages the finances on its own. BCCI is, in fact, India’s richest sporting body and the world’s richest cricket board.

One of the best ed-tech company, BYJU’s is the official sponsor of BCCI. They sealed the deal for close to three years, starting from 5th September 2020 until 31st March 2020.

HISTORY

It was back in 1912 when an all-Indian cricket team went to England for the very first time to play a cricket match. The team was led and sponsored by well renowned Maharaja of Patiala.

The year 1926 saw two representatives of the Calcutta Cricket Club travelling to London to attend a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Council. Knowing that the representatives weren’t the official ones for India, it wasn’t legal to attend the meeting, however, on the approval of the then chairman of the conference, Lord Harris, everyone worked out successfully.

The meeting did wonders for the Indians, as the MCC decided to send a team to India to play cricket. The team was led by Arthur Gilligan who also had captained England in the Ashes.

Upon arrival, the Maharaja of Patiala held a meeting with Gilligan where the former requested the Englishmen to press for Indian cricket in ICC. Gilligan agreed to the proposal but with a condition.

He told the Maharaja to bring all the promoters of the game together and form a single cricketing body for control in India which eventually led to the idea of the formation of BCCI.

On 21st November 1927, a meeting took place regarding the same which was also attended by delegates from Patiala, Delhi, United Province, Rajputana, Alwar, Bhopal, Gwalior and others. It led the formation of a consensus to form a board of control for cricket in India.

In December 1928, the BCCI was formed and registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act with six associations affiliated to it. BCCI’s full form- Board of Control for Cricket in India.

REFORMS

Post-2015 World Cup, various cases emerged in regard to the notorious activities of BCCI. BCCI headquarter which is located in Mumbai also suffered from various corruption charges. This led to the Supreme Court forming a four-member panel committee of administrations which had the name of Vinod Rai, Ramachandra Guha, Vikaram Limaye and Diana Edulji. They were given the responsibilities to administrate the functioning of BCCI.

For those of you who are unaware, Sunil Joshi is the next chairman of the national selection committee. He recently replaced MSK Prasad for the position.
