How Much Prize Money Will Winner of Every Category Get in IPL 2023

The question of how much the IPL 2023 Prize Money will be has been circulating since the start of the season. BCCI has amassed over Rs 66,000 Crore through the sale of IPL Media Rights, WPL Media Rights, as well as the sale of two IPL teams and five WPL teams. This is in addition to sponsorship deals. However, BCCI has maintained a stagnant prize pool for the past seven years. In this article, we will explore the monetary rewards that the IPL winner and winners in each category will receive.

At present, the IPL awards the winner with prize money of Rs 20 Crore, while the runners-up receive Rs 13 Cr. Since 2019, the IPL Prize Money experienced a decrease due to Covid before rebounding to the 20 Cr mark in the previous season. Although the total prize pool of Rs 46.5 Cr remains the highest among all franchise tournaments.

IPL 2023: How much do franchises earn?

When we take into account the IPL’s brand value of $8.4 billion, the prize money appears significantly lower. However, the prize money is never a decisive factor in the IPL, instead, franchises generate revenue from BCCI’s central pool. Considering that the previous media rights deal was valued at approximately Rs 48,390 crore, 40% of this amount will be distributed among the ten teams over the next five years.

That means one team will earn nearly Rs 2000 Cr. Apart from that, they will earn sponsorship deals as well as gate money from ticket sales. That is the reason franchises are unperturbed by the stagnation in the prize pool. However, the Rs 20 Crore prize money is still the highest amongst all franchise T20 leagues. Furthermore, the franchises do not depend on prize money as they get a big chunk of TV rights money from the BCCI.

This implies that one team will receive nearly Rs 2000 Cr. In addition to that, they will generate income from sponsorship deals and ticket sales revenue. This explains why franchises are not concerned about the stagnation in the prize pool.
