Harry Tector Displaces Virat Kohli, Quinton De Kock After Entering Top 10 ODI Ranking

Harry Tector, a young cricketer from Ireland, has risen to the top 10 in the most recent ICC men’s ODI batting rankings after scoring a career-high 140 against Bangladesh in the second 50-over match of the series in Chelmsford. The 23-year-old replaced South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and India’s Virat Kohli, who slipped one spot each to eighth and ninth, respectively, and concluded the series as the top run-getter with 206 runs from three games.

Shubman Gill, a young top-order batsman from India, is still ranked No. 5 in the list, which is currently headed by Babar Azam of Pakistan.

The greatest ranking for an Irish batter belongs to Tector, who jumped 72 rating points to the seventh spot. The new right-handed batter’s rating of 722 points is also the best score a male Ireland batsman in ODI cricket has ever attained.

Along with Kohli and de Kock, Tector is also in front of Rohit Sharma, the all-format captain of India, Steve Smith, of Australia, and Jos Buttler, of England.

Eoin Morgan, a former England captain, scored 712 points in 2019, although he was playing for England at that time. The Irish player with the most points, Paul Stirling, scored 697 in June 2021.

Tector will have the chance to raise his standing when Ireland competes in the World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe in June or July.

The ICC cited Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie as stating, “He’s (Tector) just got all the attributes to go on and be one of the greats of Irish cricket and I hope that we can help him on his way, and he continues to put in scores for us.”
