FIFA Imposes Life ban On Three Ex-CONMEBOL Officials

FIFA, the governing body of Football across the globe, has imposed a lifetime ban on three former South American Football officials Eduardo Deluca, Jose Luis Meiszner and Manuel Burga. It has been found that the trio violated the rules of FIFA ethics committee.

They were accused of accepting bribe in exchange of allocating lucrative media and marketing rights for the major CONMEBOL competitions. Along with the ban, the concerned officials have also been handed a fine of one million Swiss francs.

In December 2015, Deluca and Meiszner were among the top 16 people from the Football world who were charged by the US Prosecutors in alleged bribery schemes.

Following the ruling issued on Tuesday, FIFA confirmed that Burga also received 6.6 million dollars for the market deals of Copa America and Copa Libertadores.

The world governing body of Football revealed that although there were clear evidences against Burga, he didn’t seem to be ready to admit his fault and didn’t accept that there was any wrongdoing on his part.

It is not the first time that the top Football authorities have been caught indulged in corruption. There have been plenty of them who have come under the scanner in the recent times and have been found guilty.

Earlier this year, the former CONMEBOL president Juan Napout and the ex-Brazilian Confederation chief Maria Marin were handed life bans and they are currently behind the bars serving their prison sentence.

A few weeks back, FIFA also handed a life ban to Romer Osuna, the former treasurer and the member of the Executive Committee of CONMEBOL, in relation to the corruption scandal that rocked the world Football back in 2015.

CONMEBOL is the continental governing body of Football in South America founded 103 years ago on 9th July 1916. It is one of FIFA’s six continental confederations. It Contains 10 major member associations.
