Esports could feature in 2032 Brisbane Olympics: Australian media

The news which I am sharing with you after receiving an update from different Australian media outlets, in regards to esports will make you elated if you are passionate player.

If the reports are to believed, Esports could feature in 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The fastest growing sporting ecosystem is already part of upcoming Asian Games 2022.

Recently, Sean Callanan, who is serving as the founder of Sports Geek and owner of League of Legends esports, team told one of the media outlets on why Esports can make their debut in one of the biggest sporting event in the world to which he said that many people have already started taking keen interest in watching video games and this numbers will grow exponentially in coming years.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) are all about audience and fans and more people are watching the Olympics,” he said.

“There are a lot of people growing up playing video games and are now watching eSports … it is literally an audience play.

“This is purely about how many eyeballs can the Olympics maintain and how can it stay relevant to a younger audience.”

Thomas Bach, who is currently serving as the president of IOC(International Olympic Committee) was in  Queensland recently and he was asked about the inclusion of esports in Olympics as there was a talk in the past about including this fastest growing sport in recently concluded Tokyo Olympics which was ultimately denied.

As per reporters from Australia, IOC will be hosting festival of esports in Singapore next year just to have a clear idea about organizing virtual gaming events and if everything goes well in this event, the committee might think about including esports in upcoming Olympics.

Esports has become a raging sensation with the billion dollar viewership and market size all over the world and this gaming community will only flourish in times to come.

Considering the way, Esports is growing it would be difficult to say whether Esports needs Olympics or vice versa.

The biggest challenge that IOC might face as- there is no official International Esports Federation so in order to take approval to include video games in Olympics might become a daunting task.

The other point which can become challenging for IOC, is about most video games in which players compete at International stage does have some sort of violence which is clearly against the policy of Olympics which promotes friendship, teamwork and sportsmanship.

If such inclusion happens in Olympics, It might add more fans and open more door of opportunities for virtual gamers.
