England beat Bangladesh by 106 runs at ICC Cricket World Cup 2019
England beat Bangladesh by 106 runs: After losing their second encounter against Pakistan, England is back to winning ways as they registered a comfortable 106-run victory over Bangladesh on Saturday.
Shakib Al Hasan played one of his finest World Cup knocks, notching his first century of the perennial tournament. However, a total of 387 runs was too much for a side whose batting rests on only 2-3 star Bangladeshi players.
England, on the other hand, would be thankful for Archer’s inclusion in a weak bowling setup. The tall lanky fast bowler started off brilliantly with the ball in the second innings, constantly hitting over 140 clicks and thereby causing much trouble to Bangladesh’s opening pair of Tamim and Sarkar. Archer accounted for Saumya Sarkar’s wicket in only his second over as Bangladesh lost their first in the third over.
Somehow, it’s getting difficult for Tamim to stay too long at the crease in this edition of World Cup, as he too went back to the pavilion in the 12th over after playing 29 deliveries.
And, for the third consecutive occasion, it was down to Shakib Al-Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to take the team out of trouble.
Shakib continued his rich vein of form even as Mushfiqur too contributed well with the bat.
Though deep inside, the duo knew, chasing more than 350 is going to be an impossible task, given the fact they lost both the openers early, they tried to take the total as close as possible.
Shakib Al- Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim added 106 runs for the third wicket before the Bangladesh wicket-keeper fell off Plunkett on 44.
Mushfiqur’s wicket saw a decline in the run- rate as wicket kept falling regularly afterward.
Shakib Al-Hasan notched his first century in a World Cup, scoring 121 runs off 119 balls, including 12 fours and a six. The left-hander fell short of support at the other end, as Bangladesh eventually lost the game by 106 runs at Cardiff.
The victory was set up by Jason’s Roy’s knock who led England to post a daunting 386/6 in 50 overs.
Roy smacked 153 runs off just 121 balls, including 14 fours and 5 sixes, while Jonny Bairstow notched his first century of the tournament. He scored 51 runs off 50 balls.
Having been sent ahead of skipper Morgan, wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler went firing on all cylinders in the latter half of English innings. His late assault gave England much-needed impetus as he along with Morgan power England to 386/6 in 50 overs in the end.
With this 300-plus total, England became the only team to have scored seven 300 plus totals in one-day Cricket. Previously, Australia held the record for scoring six consecutive 300-plus total. But, on Saturday, England notched a bigger milestone after posting a seventh consecutive 300-plus total in their third World Cup match against Bangladesh.
