After India’s defeat in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh, a wave of sorrow spread across the nation cursing the T20 approach of the Indian team, but for team India, it is the time to bury the past and plan for the future.
The next game of the series is scheduled to take place on 7th of November in Rajkot and the former Australian batsman Dean Jones has come up with 4 mantras for the hosts.
Dean Jones feels that India have not been able to mark their authority in T20I cricket as they have done in tests and ODI. This is the reason why they are ranked 5th in the ICC T20I rankings.
4 mantras that can change team India’s fortunes
As per Dean Jones, India need 4 pillars to dominate T20I cricket. Firstly, the team needs a fast bowler who can bowl in the death. They already have Jasprit Bumrah, who is the best death bowler in the world, but Bumrah needs someone to compliment him at the death so that the runs don’t get leaked from the other end.
India also need three batsmen who can find boundaries in the powerplay. They have got two of them in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Jones reckons India will have to find another batsman to bat in top 3 who has the boundary hitting ability.
The third requirement for India is a world class all-rounder. Hardik Pandya is there in the reckoning and he is a decent all-rounder, but currently he is injured and out of the team. So, it’s an opportunity for India to test Shivam Dube and see if he can be a back-up to Hardik.
Apart from a death bowler, a boundary-hitting top order batsman and an all-rounder, Jones has urged India to look for a wrist spinner as well who can spin it both ways.
India currently have two wrist spinners in the squad in Yuzvendra Chahal and Rahul Chahar, but only Chahal played in the first game against Bangladesh and he looked threatening. Jones wants the Indian selectors to make up his mind if Chahal is going to be the team’s first choice wrist spinner going ahead or if it will be someone else.
