Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 : All possible records from player’s up for grab in 2nd Test

Ravindra Jadeja

India trounced Australia by an innings and 132 runs to win the first Test match at Nagpur with a decisive victory. When given the opportunity to bowl first, comeback kid Ravindra Jadeja struck first, helping India keep Australia to just 177. India responded by scoring 400 runs thanks to the captain Rohit Sharma’s 120, Jadeja’s 70, and Axar Patel’s 84. The Australian squad, which was down by 223 runs, was dismissed for 91 runs as Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 31st 5-wicket haul in Test matches.

The second Test will begin on February 17 at Firoz Shah Kotla in Delhi, where the focus now moves.

India would be able to keep the Border Gavaskar Trophy with a victory. Australia, on the other side, needs to defeat India to win the series. For the visitors, things won’t be simple, though. In Delhi, Australia had not triumphed in a Test match since December 1959, or 63 years ago.

The second test in Delhi also takes significance since certain personal milestones are expected to be attained here.

  1. One Wicket in Test cricket Jadeja needs to accumulate 250 wickets.  He will be the fifth quickest Indian to reach the milestone, after Ashwin (45 Tests), Anil Kumble (55), BS Bedi (60) and Harbhajan Singh (61).
  2. 62 Number of Tests Jadeja is likely to take for the ‘2,000 runs and 250 wickets’ landmark. He will become the second-quickest Indian after Ashwin (51 tests) to reach this landmark.
  3. For Axar Patel to get to 50 wickets, he needs two wickets. He will attain the milestone behind Ashwin (nine Tests) as the second-fastest Indian bowler.
  4. Ashwin needs three wickets to surpass Kumble as the second Indian bowler with 100 wickets against Australia.
  5. Pujara will be the fourth Indian to reach the milestone of 2,000 Test runs against Australia, needs 100 runs to reach.

These are some of the individual historic landmarks that can be reached in the second test and huge records can be broken off.
