Big Breaking: BCCI all set to increase ICC revenue share to 37% from 2024-2027 Cycle

The International Cricket Council‘s (ICC) all-powerful Finance & Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) is reportedly trying to establish a working group to propose a new income sharing arrangement, which may be a historic move to further enhance India’s stature in cricket. If the proposal is approved as written, the Indian Cricket Board is predicted to get 37% of the ICC’s revenue for the 2024–2027 cycle.

Compared to the previous cycle, which spanned from 2016 to 2023, when BCCI got 22.8%, this is a significant increase. The Indian Cricket Board made $405 million during the time.

The ICC has always held the view that more than 75% of the revenue generated by the international organisation comes from the Indian market alone.

The sale of media rights for the upcoming 2024–2027 cycle, however, has debunked the assumption and highlighted how India’s contribution is actually far greater than thought.

“The ICC chose to sell the rights on a territorial basis for the first time. In that, the India market brought in $3.04 billion on its own. According to the “75% theory” put forth by ICC, this $3.04 billion ought to represent 75% of their total global sales, right? But do you really believe that the rest of the globe is putting in $25 million as a whole?” ask those keeping track of events.

The estimated price for the four-year sale of the Australia rights was $60 million. In contrast to every other market, the ICC has signed an eight-year deal with broadcaster Sky for the UK and Europe. Those who follow this market claim that “this happened because the four-year deal was hardly fetching the ICC anything.”

Collectively, the rest of the globe isn’t contributing even $500 million.

BCCI is currently engaged in organizing IPL 2023, where distinct teams are competing against each other for the coveted crown and based on the performance, Rajasthan Royals have been top notch as they have got all their bases covered.
