After a historic Women’s Premier League 2023 auction, where 449 players from across the globe went under the hammer, we finally have an idea of how all the 5 teams will look like in the inaugural WPL season set to start from March.
There were 15-18 slots to fill and most of the teams have all sets covered in their respective teams. Women’s cricket in India is developing at a vicious pace and especially after India’s inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 world cup triumph, Cricket has become even more serious from a Woman’s perspective.

BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah said that WPL will bring about yet another revolutionizing moment in Indian sports similar to the Men’s IPL in 2008.
“The WPL is going to revolutionize the way we look at women’s cricket. The huge success of the WPL auction has not only given an opportunity to many prospective talent to showcase their skills on the big stage but also to young budding cricketers to take center stage on a global level.”
“The reception from fans around the world has been overwhelmingly positive and this will only continue to grow as the league matures. The WPL will set a template for other sports to follow suit. We saw what happened with the men’s IPL and how other sporting leagues cropped up after 2008. The WPL will ensure the growth of multi-genre sport among women.”
