Are the Wrestlers protesting against the WFI System or is it all a propaganda against the Ruling party?

The Wrestlers’ protest in the recent days have amassed plenty of eyes and support as at least 1500-2000 people joined the Protest site at Jantar Mantar. Most of the people that joined the rally against WFI President Brij Bushan Singh Sharan which first came into light on January 2023.

Led by Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, the Protesters first took the streets in January. After almost 2 weeks of appealing, a separate committee was made to look into the matter but the case did not even get close towards Justice or conclusion.

In Mid-April, the Protesters took to the streets again and today is the 16th day of the protest. This time the Wrestlers are receiving plenty of support especially from a sect of organizations that are against the ruling party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

People from Worker’s Union and Farmer’s union are reaching Jantar Mantar in large numbers. Senior Union Farmer politicians from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) are also in the protesting side.

It is important to notice that WFI President Brij Bushan Sharan Singh is also a Member of Parliament for BJP which is the ruling party. The allegations made against him are severe – sexual harassment to wrestlers including a minor and then mental torture for the victims to keep quiet.

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has also laid support to the Wrestlers and indirectly they are having a direct say into what will be the Wrestlers’ next move. A Mahapanchayat was also held on Sunday at Jantar Mantar from villages of the Protesters.

It is being said that the protest is being hijacked by these people who are also being linked to the Wrestlers. In response, Vinesh Phogat said that “We come from families of Farmers. To say that members of our family are ‘hijacking’ this is very wrong.”

She concluded – The elders of our families are farmers, they are the ones advising us. If we come out to fight for justice, you don’t expect our family to come and support us?”
