Adam Milne Receives NewZealand's Central Contract After Five Years

Following the board’s announcement of 20 names for the list for the 2023–24 season, Adam Milne, a fast bowler for New Zealand, received an offer for a NZC central contract for the first time in five years. Although he had played for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022, the 31-year-old fast returned to the national side’s setup in October of last year after nearly a year away.

In November, Milne also participated in his first ODI match in more than five years, his previous appearance in the format was in 2017 at the Champions Trophy.

Adam has put in a lot of effort and displayed strong resiliency over the previous few years to deserve this contract offer, according to coach Gary Stead. He’s always been a top-notch bowler, and we were pleased with his consistent performance during the last summer at home and the Pakistan tour.

The NZC contract offers include, among other things, the retention of Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, and Blair Tickner after they joined the list last year and initially replaced Colin de Grandhomme, who retired from international cricket last August, Trent Boult, and Martin Guptill, who had turned down national contracts the previous year.

James Neesham, an all-rounder who had previously declined an offer from the NZC in favour of playing in T20 leagues all over the world, was also left out. Since he only participated in two Test matches during the current period, left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel, who was previously listed among the contractual players, has been left out this time.

All New Zealand players have until June 12 to accept or reject the contract offers offered by NZC in accordance with the Master Agreement.

Players offered NZC contracts for 2023-24: Michael Bracewell, Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Neil Wagner, Kane Williamson, Will Young and Devon Conway.
