5 most expensive players in IPL Auction 2020

The auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is done and dusted after a total of 338 player went under the hammer at the auction in Kolkata. The Australian players had a night to remember as most of the them grabbed the most expensive deals. Some of the local youngsters also became millionaires overnight while some in-form players surprisingly remained unsold.

Let’s have a look at the five most expensive player in IPL auction 2020:

1) Pat Cummins (15.5 cr to Kolkata Knight Riders)

Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins created history at the auction as he became the most expensive overseas player in the history of IPL. He was sold to his old team Kolkata Knight Riders for a whooping price of 15.5 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals were fighting it hard in the bid to grab the fast bowler, but KKR stunned everyone and enter in the bid after it reached INR 15 crore mark. Cummins has vertaken the England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was bought by former IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants for INR 14.50 crore in 2017.

2) Glenn Maxwell (10.75 crore to Kings XI Punjab)

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell just returned to cricket after taking a break due to mental health issues. However, he has not been selected for the New Zealand series. Though it didn’t take  away anything from the all-rounder as he was a hot favourite at the auction. He was picked by his former side Kings XI Punjab for INR 10.75 crore, which makes him the second most expensive player in IPL 2020 auction.

3) Chris Morris (10 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore)

South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whooping price of INR 10 crore and perhaps it was one of the most shocking deals at the auction. Virat Kohli and his men are yet to win a IPL trophy and they were desperate to make a balanced team at the auction. The franchise didn’t want to miss out on Morris, who has a vast experience and a very useful player in the shortest format of the game.

4) Sheldon Cottrell (8.5 crore to Kings XI Punjab) 

Kings XI Punjab had a lot of money left in their purse and they made the good use of it at the auction. After grabbing the deal of their former player Glenn Maxwell, Punjab also snapped the West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell for INR 8.5 crore. He is the fourth most expensive player in the IPL auction 2020. Cottrell is turning into a major weapon for West Indies in the shortest format of the game. He picked up 30 wickets in 22 T20I games. He is in a good form with the ball and Punjab perhaps is a big fan of his salute.

5) Nathan Coulter-Nile (8.5 crore to Mumbai Indians)

The Australian all-rounder was bought again by his former side Mumbai Indians. The defending champions bought him for 8.5 crore, which is the same amount as Sheldon Cottrell at the IPL 2020 auction. Coulter-Nile played for Mumbai Indians back in 2013 and also won a title with them. He then moved to Delhi Daredevils in the next edition after the franchise bought him for INR 4.5 crore. The Aussie all-rounder has a vast experience in the shortest format of the game. He played 108 T20 matches, picking up 130 wickets and has an economy of 7.78.
