WPL 2023 : Despite having one of the strongest squads, RCB Women lose their 4th match in a row!

Perhaps the most strongest team in the Women’s Premier League 2023 – Royal Challengers Bangalore Women are yet to pick up a victory in the inaugural edition of the WPL. Smriti Mandhana led RCB Women on Friday lost their 4th WPL match against the UP Warriorz by 10-wickets.

With this loss, RCB Women’s chances of reaching the play-off stages have lowered and they are virtually out of the competition all together. Only a miracle could take them through to the last stages but it is highly unlikely that anything of that sort would happen.

Before this match, one of their major concerns were bowling but tonight at the Brabourne Stadium, their batting also flopped and all of the big names in their team suffered massive embarrassment. They say win the toss and win the game but in RCB’s context it has been totally opposite.

Smriti Mandhana as the captain of the team has won the toss on all 4 matches but haven’t opened their account in the points table. Today they were expected to fight back but the team has only succumbed to the pressure. They had a shaky start to their innings with Smriti Mandhana departing for 4 and Sophie Devine played a quickfire 36 off 24 but she failed to convert it into something big.

Aussie legend Ellyse Perry showed her true colors with the bat today and smacked a decent 52 off 39 before falling prey to Deepthi Sharma. RCB Women’s biggest concern – their Middle order was exposed yet again as all the batters were blown away by UP Warriorz’s bowling line-up.

Kanika Ahuja, Heather Knight, Shreyanka Patil, Erin Burns and Richa Ghosh all of them disappointed and shared only 38 runs between them. 138 was they target they would set and it was always going to be an easy one for a side like UP Warriorz led by Alyssa Healy.

The North Indian outfit got to the victory very easily and rather dominantly. UP Warriorz sailed through a 10-wicket win enroute Devika Vadiya’s composed 36 runs and Captain Alyssa Healy’s match winning 96 off 47 balls at a strike rate of 204 including eighteen 4’s and a 6.

UP are now 3rd in the points table with 4 points and a net run rate of +0.509.
