World Para Championships: Deepthi Jeevanji broke the world record
The story of Deepthi Jeevanji is one of persistence, unrealized promise, and the unshakable commitment of a coach who recognized something exceptional in her. Deepthi, who hails from a small village in Telangana, India, credits her success to her coach and tenacity on her journey to becoming a World Para Athletics champion.
Deepthi showed early signs of athletic ability. Her trainer, Nagpuri Ramesh, who is known for having trained sprint sensation Dutee Chand, was impressed by her natural talent. But Ramesh soon found himself up against a special obstacle. Hard workouts didn’t stop Deepthi from being happy; in sharp contrast, other trainees publicly showed signs of exhaustion.

Following a medical evaluation in 2016, Deepthi was found to have a disability. Even while it was frightening at first, this discovery led to the realm of parasports, which is a new universe of opportunities. Deepthi accepted this shift and made the decision to compete in parasports, which completely changed the course of her life and career.
Deepthi’s parents were daily wage earners who had financial difficulties. The goal was not to send their daughter for athletic instruction at first. But Ramesh stepped in, seeing Deepthi’s talent. He took complete responsibility for Deepthi’s training and convinced her parents to let her reside at the Hyderabad dormitory run by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Deepthi’s condition created unique coaching difficulties. Ramesh found that she was overwhelmed by complicated directions. He modified his strategy, concentrating on easier methods and giving Deepti the time and attention that she needed. Together with Deepthi’s innate talent and unyielding spirit, this dedication started to produce amazing outcomes.
Deepthi Jeevanji trained alongside athletes who were in good physical condition. She was pushed to new heights and her physical strength increased as a result. Legendary badminton player Pullela Gopichand recognized her talent even more, helping her obtain the international license required to compete abroad in addition to providing financial support through his foundation.
Not only did Deepthi’s ascent to fame bring her great happiness, but it also delighted her family. Deepthi’s parents, who were formerly made fun of by their neighbors for having a “mad” daughter, are now elated. Deepti and her family were able to resume farming after being forced to sell a plot of land. This was made possible by the financial awards Deepti received. Deepti’s impairment is no longer associated with societal stigma; instead, respect and appreciation have taken its place.
Deepthi’s recent victory in the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, is evidence of her unwavering determination and her coach’s and mentor’s steadfast support. She became the first Indian to win gold in a track event at the World Para Championships when she broke the world record in the 400-meter sprint (T20) category, clocking in at 55.07 seconds. Her qualification for the next Paralympics in Paris was also guaranteed by this triumph.
The tale of Deepthi Jeevanji goes beyond her achievements on the field. It’s an ode to the potential of people, to overcoming obstacles, and to the transformational force of commitment and faith. The world is eager to see the magic that Deepthi will work on the Paralympic stage as she sets her sights on Paris.
