“Won’t return to European Football”, Cristiano Ronaldo on his fairytale comeback to Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo

Its been exactly 7 months since 5-time Ballon D’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo made a permanent move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and he has already pledged to never return to European football. The 38-year-old mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Manchester United last year after the World cup and sealed a 2 year contract worth 200 Million.

Ever since his move became official, a flock of high profile footballers from around Europe have signed lucrative deals with Saudi Arabian clubs. That includes the 2022 FIFA Ballon D’or Winner Karim Benzema, UCL and World Cup winner N’Golo Kante among others with more to follow in the coming weeks.

Earlier today, Cristiano Ronaldo once again shocked the whole world with his comments. He not only spoke about the influx of players into Saudi Arabia but also took a jab at Lionel Messi for his recent move to David Beckham owned MLS side Inter Miami.

Ronaldo while speaking to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, stated that initially people mocked him for moving to Saudi but how did all of the talk evaporate all of a sudden? “They criticized me for coming to Saudi League, but what happened now? I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here.”

There’s no denying the fact that CR7 actually made Saudi Pro League a destination to be for players, be it for money or for competitive football. “My decision to join Saudi clubs was 100% crucial to bring in new top players. Itโ€™s a fact.”

Saudi League way better than MLS, Cristiano Ronaldo blasts Messi’s recent move

Before Lionel Messi went on to join Inter Miami, he was offered a big money deal by Al-Hilal which could have seen both of the legends went toe-to-toe once again and bring back those La Liga days but Messi chose Miami. To that Ronaldo said that Saudi League is better, more competitive than MLS, thus a move to USA is never going to be on the cards. “The Saudi league is better than MLS.”

Last but not the least, the 38-year-old also shed light upon his comeback to the European circuit, stating that football in Europe has lost its essence but praised the English Premier League for being the best.

โ€œIโ€™m 38 years old. And European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one and still doing good is the Premier League. Theyโ€™re way ahead of all the other leagues.โ€
