What is the highest team total by India in T20 World Cup history?

On September 19, 2007, during the Group E league stage match between India and England in the 2007 T20 World Cup at Durban, history was created as team India amassed their highest ever total in the history of T20 World Cup matches. India was able to achieve the feat due to a smashing innings from Yuvraj Singh, who became a part of the history books.

The match began with India’s captain, MS Dhoni, winning the toss and choosing to bat first against England. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag came out to open the innings and took the English bowlers to the cleaners. This lefty-righty duo of Gambhir and Sehwag went for the kill and batted brilliantly with the intent of scoring big runs.

Gambhir scored 58 runs in 41 balls, and Sehwag scored 68 runs in 52 balls, putting India on the path to a huge total. The middle order collapsed a little, and the score, which was looking to be huge at one point, was only average as the innings progressed. However, the fun started then as Andrew Flintoff said something to Yuvraj Singh, and our lion from Punjab decided to let his bat do the talking.

Stuart Broad came to bowl the 19th over of the inning as Yuvi hit him all over the park for six sixes in the over, for a total of 36 runs. Yuvraj’s 12-ball historic fifty made sure India had an above-par total on the board. The sensational batting effort by the Indian batters ensured that it was India’s highest ever total in T20 World Cup matches.

In response to India’s 218, England batted pretty well and made 200 runs but lost the match in the end by 18 runs. For his absolutely mad inning of 58 runs in just 16 balls, Yuvraj Singh received the player of the match award and helped in writing India’s name in the history books.
