Rohit Sharma says No. 4 spot, a matter of concern ahead of CWC 2023

With less than 2 months remaining for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, team India’s Skipper Rohit Sharma spoke about the issues, that has hindered the country in ICC events for years now. He claimed that ever since Yuvraj Singh’s departure, no Batter has been able to make the No. 4 spot their own.

It is among the main reasons why the Men in Blue have been so miserable in ICC tournaments. Since 2013, India have bowed out of every major tournament in the last stages, except the 2020 T20 World Cup. And the puzzle remains unsolved yet again as the Cricket World Cup 2023 comes around.

During a La Liga event in Mumbai yesterday, Rohit Sharma sat down and gave an insight of what is going around in the minds of team management. He started off by saying that the combination for World cup is yet to be finalized and that everyone has to fight for their spots.

“We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is right combination for us to go in the World Cup but before we have the Asia Cup.” They have a handful of ODIs to play first in the Asia Cup, then a 3-match ODI series against Australia before the World Cup begins.

With the opening slot and number 3 sorted, India will look to find answers for the number 4 spot. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are the viable options and both are undergoing rehabilitation after long injury lay-offs. Upon their comeback, it is unknown whether they will be in the perfect shape to deliver or not.

“Look, No. 4 has been an issue for us a long time. After Yuvi, nobody has come and settled themselves in the role. For a long period of time, Shreyas has actually batter at No. 4 and he has done well, his numbers are really good but unfortunately injuries have given him a bit of trouble.” – Rohit Sharma concluded.
