Transfer Round-up of the day: 17th July

Just as the action has begun in the pre-season, there is a lot going on in the transfer window as teams identify their frailties and act upon it. Latest from the transfer window here:

  • Steve Bruce announced as Newcastle United manager

Steve Bruce was announced as Newcastle United manager on Wednesday morning. The 58-year-old will be successor to Rafa Benitez at St James Park. The Magpies fans are unhappy with the appointment of the Englishman.  The former England player, Paul Gascoigne urged the Newcastle fans ‘to give Bruce a chance’ after he signed a three-year contract.

“For me, Steve Bruce is a great appointment,” Gazza told talkSPORT host Jim White on Wednesday.

“He’s a great guy and everybody knows he’s a winner, he’s won so many medals, so he knows how to win games and knows how to win championships.

“Obviously the fans are upset and they’re voicing their opinion… but give Steve Bruce a chance. They’ve got to give him a chance, they’ve got to. He’s played with the best.”

  • Arsenal waiting for Zidane approval to sign Dani Ceballos on loan

Sky Sports reports that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign the midfielder Dani Ceballos on a permanent deal, however, the player prefers the Gunner’s loan proposal. This deal will favour Arsenal financially, as they look to bring in their targets. The deal is expected to complete with Zinedine Zidane’s approval. 

  • Atletico Madrid sign Kieran Trippier

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have signed Kieran Trippier from Tottenham, on a three-year-contract, for a fee in excess of £20m.

The Spanish club was looking to reinforce in that area after the departure of Juanfran and would be happy to seal the deal for their preferred right-back.

  • Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal

German playmaker Mesut Ozil has made his desire of wanting to stay back at Arsenal, clear. The 30-year-old has attracted interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, but he isn’t keen on a move to Turkey and wants to fight for his place at Arsenal, given he isn’t guaranteed of a first team place.

  • Timo Werner not keen on Dortmund move

German striker Timo Werner has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, who also contacted Werner’s club RB Leipzing, however, the 23-year-old isn’t keen on a move to Dortmund and is reportedly, only considering Bayern Munich.

  • West Ham break club record yet again to sign Sebastien Haller

After breaking club record for signings of Issa Diop and Felipe Anderson, West Ham have broker the record yet again, signing Sebastien Haller, on a four-year-deal for a club record fee.

As per Sky Sports News, the striker has an option of 12 months extension in his deal and has cost the Hammers £45m.

Hammers were looking for a replacement for Marko Arnautovic who is now a part of Chinese Super League, and it has now finally happened.

  • Money in between Arsenal and Zaha

As per Sky Sports reports, Arsenal are still keen on Zaha and did make an offician enquiry, however, they are finding the valuation of the Winger, a problem. While Arsenal tabled a £40million bid, Crystal Palace boss wants somewhere in the region of £80million, which might make it really hard for the Gunners.

Hodgson told Sky Sports: “I don’t think Arsenal have actually made a bid that has come anywhere near our valuation.

“I’m sure the player realises that if someone’s going to take him away from us, he’ll expect clubs to pay the market value.

“Until someone does that, there’s not much to discuss regarding Wilf.”
