Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has recently revealed that legendary Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Wasim Akram was one of his cricket heroes when he was growing up. Watson had faced Wasim Akram in the Bushfire Cricket Bash charity match in the last week, where he hit the Pakistan legend for two consecutive big sixes. However, the all-rounder revealed that he continued to apologise to the pace spearhead for hitting the two successive sixes.

“I still feel really bad about that – Wasim [was] one of my heroes when I was growing up and now as well as he is a quality person,” Shane Watson was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

“I felt very bad especially after [the] second one went in the breeze and kept going, I continued to apologize to Wasim.”

He also said that he has no plans to come out of his retirement in order to play for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year which will take place in Australia as well.

“In regards to comeback for Australia in T20 World Cup, no, I am very happily retired and I love doing what I am doing in different tournaments but now with Quetta Gladiators is one of the highlights of my year and it’s a pleasure to be here again,” he shared.

However, Shane Watson has been playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he will play for the Gladiators. He will try to replicate his stunning form in the tournament that he did last year. In the last edition, he finished as the top run-getter in the tournament with a whopping 430 runs in only 12 matches, which included four half-centuries that too came at an average of 43 and a stunning strike-rate of 143.81.

He helped the Gladiators win the title last year and the defending champions will try to do this year as well. They will begin their campaign of the PSL by taking Islamabad United in Karachi on February 20 as well.
