Shamarh Brooks

Barbadian international cricket player Shamarh Shaqad Joshua Brooks was born on 1 October 1988. Shamarh is a cricket player from Barbados who plays domestically for Barbados but internationally represents West Indies. Brooks is a right-handed batsman who primarily bats but also occasionally bowls leg-spin. In the month of August of the year 2019, he made his debut for the West Indies on a global stage.

Early Career

During his teenage years, Brooks was regarded as a cricket prodigy. In the Under-19 Cricket World Cup of the year 2006, Shamarh Brooks was a member of the West Indies under-19 cricket team. In the year 2007, he made his first-class cricket debut for Barbados. While, in the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, he served as captain of the West Indies.

He was a member of the Barbados national team for a number of years, but he never reached his full potential. In 2012, he had a particularly poor year, scoring just 76 runs at an average of 8.44, which led to his expulsion from the team.

Brooks didn’t play in another first-class game until 2015, but upon his return, he instantly recorded his first-ever century in the division against the Windward Islands. He scored 3091 runs at an average of 38.63 during the following five years, including five centuries and 20 half-centuries.

By leading West Indies A, the West Indies’ second team, in unofficial Test matches starting in 2016, Brooks took his first steps toward Test cricket. In the year 2018 West Indies A series against India A in England, Shamarh Brooks scored 91 runs in the first game and 121 runs without being out in the second game to end as the series’ highest run scorer.

T20 Franchise

For two seasons in 2016 and 2017, Brooks competed for St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League, the best Twenty20 league in the West Indies. He participated in 4 games in each season, scoring 119 runs with an average of 23.80 and a 120.20 strike rate.

International Career

In recognition of his first-class performance, Brooks was selected for the West Indies Test squad for their series against England in the month of January of the year 2019, although he did not participate. In a second series against India A in July and August 2019, he led West Indies A as captain. After Kraigg Brathwaite sustained an injury, he stepped in to lead the first two matches as well. Originally, he was only supposed to captain the final of three unofficial Test matches. With half-centuries in both of the first two games, Brooks took the initiative and was later picked to the West Indies Test squad once more, this time for their series against India.

On August 22, 2019, Brooks made his Test debut for the West Indies against India.[20] Brooks achieved his first century in Test cricket in November 2019 when he made 111 runs in the lone Test against Afghanistan.

Brooks was selected for the West Indies Test team for their series against England in the month of June of the year 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the Test series to be delayed from its initial May 2020 start date to July 2020.

Brooks was included in the West Indies One Day International (ODI) team for their series against Pakistan in November 2021. On December 13, 2021, against Pakistan, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for the West Indies. He was included in the West Indies ODI team for their series against Ireland in December 2021. On January 8, 2022, he played in his first ODI for the West Indies against Ireland.

With 101 not out, Brooks recorded his first ODI century against the Netherlands on June 4, 2022, in the third and final game of the series.

On day 3 of the first Test of the West Indies tour of Australia in the month of December of the year 2022, Brooks took Nkrumah Bonner’s place as a concussion replacement.
