One of the only two teams in the Caribbean Premier League which has won the trophy twice, Barbados Tridents will look to clinch the CPL trophy once again when the teams meet in 2020. The team has been one of the strongest teams in the Caribbean Premier League history apart from Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs.

Barbados Tridents started their CPL journey on a higher note with qualifying to semifinals in the inaugural edition. However, they couldn’t make it to the final round as they were outwitted by Jamaican outfit. But, the team was yet to shine and they shone in the next editions of the league.

In the 2014 season, Barbados stacked themselves beautifully. The team was enriched by the stars and they topped the group stage. Against Guyana Amazon Warriors, the DLS method was employed in the finals where the team won by just eight runs. The team were consistent in the next season too as they topped the group stage by winning six out of 10 games.

Trinbago Knight Riders, however, stumped their chances to win the trophy in the third season. Barbados Tridents set up a finale with TKR but couldn’t progress further as TKR emerged victoriously.

After a glorious start to the league, the team went under the radar in the upcoming seasons as they finished fifth consecutively under Keiron Pollard. The team management appointed Jason Holder as their captain in 2019 which paid them rich dividends. Barbados Tridents sealed the second title in the previous edition.

The team has been an altogether different side. Despite two titles to their name, the side has never registered a 200+ score in the Caribbean Premier League.

#1) 196 for 4 against St Lucia Stars (Currently Zouks)

St Lucia Stars met Barbados Tridents in one of their worst seasons at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. It was the home game for St Lucia’s outfit. However, the Barbados outfit ran the riot against St Lucia which makes it into the list of top 5 highest scores for Barbados Tridents in CPL.

After winning the toss, Kieron Pollard opted to bat first in the overcast condition. Dwayne Smith and Williamson scored runs in bulk and stitched up a partnership of 72 in just 55 balls before Smith fell. Though St Lucia stars tried to peg back with two more wickets in three overs, Keiron Pollard didn’t allow that to happen. Pollard’s 83 runs of 35 balls left St Lucia Stars red-faced. Barbados Tridents went on to win the game by 21 runs under the DLS method.

#2) 195 for 4  against St Lucia Stars (Currently Zouks)

In the reverse fixture of 2017, Barbados Tridents once again thumped their authority with a humongous first innings score in the CPL. It is the second-highest among the top 5 high scores for Barbados Tridents in CPL.

At Kensington Oval, Barbados Tridents won the toss and chose to bat first. Barbados Tridents were bundled out for a meager 59  in their previous fixture made a few tactical changes for their clash against Stars. It was altogether a total rampage from Dwayne Smith. he smashed 103 runs from 65 balls which consisted of 8 maximums. Though St Lucia Stars tried to chase it down, they had to stop at 166 as they ran out of overs.

#3) 192 for 5 against Trinbago Knight Riders

Kensington Oval has always been a happy hunting ground for Barbados Tridents. This time, it was Trinbago Knight Riders who had to bear the wrath of Barbados outfit. The side registered their third-best amongst the top 5 high scores for Barbados Tridents in CPL.

Barbados Tridents had toss going in their favour. Choosing to bat first, they piled up the misery on Trinbago Knight Riders with a huge load of runs. Charles and Carter laid the foundation for one of the highest scores. JP Duminy came in at one-down and Tridents were all over TKR. Duminy scored 65 from just 20 balls which spurred them to a great total. Chasing a mountain, TKR were bundled out for 129.

#4) 188 for 8 against Guyana Amazon Warriors

It is one of the matches of Barbados Tridents they would not like to remember. The game against Guyana Amazon Warriors was a blip in their title-winning campaign. Though it is one of their highest scores and makes into the list of top 5 high scores for Barbados Tridents in CPL, the Barbados outfit succumbed to a defeat.

At Providence Stadium, Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and chose to bat first. B King and H Chanderpaul stitched up a great opening partnership for the first wicket which laid the foundation for GAW. What happened after that was completely ruthless. Brandon King scored 132 runs off 72 balls which led GAW to a humongous total of 218.

Chasing 219 in a T20 clash, Barbados Tridents lost wickets at consecutive intervals. The team tried to up the tempo but the loss of wickets in succession didn’t help them. Though Carter and Holder tried to win the game for Barbados outfit, they could end up at just 188.

#5) 188 for 6 against St Lucia Stars (Currently Zouks)

At St Lucia, St Lucia Stars finally ended up on the right side of the podium after they outwitted Barbados Tridents in a high-scoring fixture. In a dismal 2018 campaign, Stars piled up a humongous 226 runs for the loss of six wickets and the opposition registered one of their top 5 high scores for Barbados Tridents.

Chasing a mammoth 227, Barbados Tridents’ wickets fell from the initial stages itself. There were no strong partnerships in the middle as they ended up on the losing side. Dwayne Smith saw his partners walking one after the other as he stayed and scored 58 runs from 45 balls. The second-highest scorer for the team in the fixture was Steve Smith, who had 28 runs to his name in 16 deliveries.
