‘Rishabh Pant as batsman is a different phenomona’- Faroukh Engineer lauds Wicket keeper recent Test heroics

India swashbuckling middle-order wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in no time has become the face of Indian cricket and he is expected to lead India in the future with the kind of form he is in at the moment.

The team management has started to rely more on Rishabh Pant now especially after the heroics of Gabba where he has scored unbeaten 89 runs to ensure that Men in Blue cross over the line and many people have become fans of Pant after that innings and the latest to join the bandwagon is former India wicket-keeper batsman Faroukh Engineer who lauded Pant for his heroic knock for India on that Australian tour.

“I’ve always liked Rishabh Pant as an individual. I’m very fond of him. Pant and Dhoni reminded me of my younger days. I was the same attacking batsman, but I’d like to think I was a better wicketkeeper,” Engineer said in an interview with Sports Tak.

He also talked about the kind of wicket-keeper you need to pick based on formats when it comes to limited over format a batter should be picked who can keep and in Test cricket which is a five-day tense contest a keeper should be picked first and then who can bat as every session in Test cricket equation changes so a proper keeper is required to take those close catches in the pressure moments of the game.

“As a batsman, he is a unique phenomenon. He’s got that confidence that very few people have. You saw him in Australia, only a complete idiot or a man with supreme confidence would do that. And I wouldn’t call him an idiot at all. I would call it supreme confidence.”

“He is a very talented cricketer. I wish him nothing but the very best of everything. He is maturing with every game and he will be a great servant for India,” he said.

Pant and Kohli still need to play big knocks in the ongoing Test series against England and if that happens India will certainly be more comfortable position as compared to what they are in now as the third test between the two giants of cricket will take place on the 25th August at Leeds.
