Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan withdraws from The Hundred because of an unspecified injury

Rashid Khan will not play for Trent Rockets in The Hundred this year. He was supposed to play three matches, including the first game against the Southern Brave. Rashid recently played in Major League Cricket for MI New York and helped them win the title. He took three wickets for nine runs in the final against Seattle Orcas. Rashid represented Trent Rockets in the first two editions of The Hundred but has withdrawn from the upcoming season due to an injury that he has not disclosed.

The franchise has replaced him with Ish Sodhi from New Zealand, and Imad Wasim will be the deputy for the first three matches. Rashid said he was disappointed to withdraw from The Hundred due to injury and hopes to play again next year. Rashid is expected to play for Afghanistan in the 2023 Asia Cup, which starts on August 30. Rashid hasn’t been feeling well due to a back injury, which made him miss the first two ODI’s against Sri Lanka in June 2023.

It seems like Rashid Khan’s sudden withdrawal from The Hundred has highlighted the credibility issues the tournament is facing.

It looks like players are concerned about the future of England’s most significant white-ball franchise tournaments, especially with Major League Cricket now in the picture. The ECB Board is planning to merge the Vitality T20 Blast and The Hundred into a single T20 tournament, but this will take time to implement.

Rashid Khan was kept in the top bracket with a salary of £125,000, and he would have been paid based on his three appearances. The Hundred is struggling to keep local players, with Mark Wood also deciding to skip the tournament to avoid injury before the upcoming ODI World Cup.
