Ranji Trophy Round 4 results

In the round 4 matches of Ranji Trophy 2019/20, Group A saw Hyderabad defeat Kerala by 6 wickets, Andhra Pradesh cruise to an easy 6 wicket win over Rajasthan, the rest 2 matches between Punjab- Delhi, and Bengal- Gujarat came with first-innings lead.

In Group B matches, Karnataka defeated Mumbai by 5 wickets to earn 6 points, Baroda defeat Railways by 99 runs. The match between Tamil Nadu- Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were decided on first-innings lead.

In Group C matches, Assam, Services, Jammu and Kashmir won their respective matches by an innings. The match between Tripura and Odisha was decided on first-innings lead, while Haryana defeated Chhattisgarh by 89 runs.

The Plate Group matches saw Puducherry, Goa, Bihar winning them in contrasting style. Chandigarh- Nagaland, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh were based on first innings

  1. Punjab versus Delhi (ICA Bindra Stadium, Mohali)

The match between Punjab and Delhi was drawn. Delhi earned 3 points due to the first-innings lead. Punjab captain Mandeep Singh won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a good batting effort as contributions from Mandeep, Gurkeerat Singh, Anmolpreet Singh helped Punjab post 313. In reply, Delhi took the first innings by posting 339.

In their 2nd innings, Punjab scored 44 for 4 before rain spoiled the entire fourth day.

  1. Hyderabad versus Kerala (Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad)

Hyderabad registered their first win of Ranji Trophy 2019/20 beating Kerala by 6 wickets played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After winning the toss, Kerala captain Sachin Baby won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did not pay off as they were bowled out for 164 runs in the first innings.

In reply, thanks to Kolla Sumanth century, Hyderabad were bowled out for 228 runs in their first innings. Kerala batsmen could not cope against Siraj and Ravi Kiran and hence were bowled out for 218 runs. Chasing 154 runs to win, Hyderabad openers provided a good start before a stutter. The hosts won the match by 6 wickets.

  1. Bengal versus Gujarat (Eden Gardens, Kolkata)

The match between Bengal and Gujarat ended in a draw. With a match affected due to rain, Bengal earned 3 points with a first-innings lead. Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran won the toss and decided to field first. It was a superb bowling effort by Bengal bowlers as they bowled out Gujarat for 194 runs.

In reply, Bengal batsmen did a brilliant job on the final day to go past Gujarat score and earn 3 points.

  1. Rajasthan versus Andhra Pradesh (Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur)

Andhra Pradesh defeated Rajasthan by 6 wickets to register six points. Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari won the toss and decided to field first. The decision paid off as Stephen and Sasikanth wreaked havoc to bowl out Rajasthan for 151 runs in the first innings. In reply, Andhra Pradesh posted 257 runs.

Andhra Pradesh bowlers did the job again by bowling out Rajasthan for 257 in their 2nd innings. Chasing 152 runs to win, Vihari led from the front and helped Andhra won the match by 6 wickets on 4th day.

Group B

  1. Mumbai versus Karnataka (Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai)

Karnataka defeated Mumbai by 5 wickets in a low scoring thriller played at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Karun Nair won the toss and decided to field first. It was not an ideal batting performance by Mumbai as they were bowled out for 194 runs. Surya Kumar Yadav scored 77 runs in the first innings. In reply, R Samarth and Sharath BR knock helped Karnataka take a decent lead.

In their 2nd innings, Mumbai struggled and scored 149 runs. Prithvi Shaw did not bat due to an injury to his shoulder. Despite a stutter, Karnataka won the match by 5 wickets.

  1. Uttar Pradesh versus Tamil Nadu (Green Park Stadium, Kanpur)

In a rain-affected match due to rain, Tamil Nadu earned 3 points by earning a close first-innings lead. Uttar Pradesh captain Ankit Rajpoot won the toss and decided to field first. Superb bowling by UP bowlers helped skittle out Tamil Nadu for 180 in their first innings. In reply, UP batsmen struggled and fell short of the first-innings lead by just 5 runs.

In their 2nd innings, Tamil Nadu was bowled out for 154. With a target of 160 runs to win, UP scored 41 for 2 when the umpires called off play.

  1. Baroda versus Railways (Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodra)

Baroda defeated Railways by 99 runs to earn 6 points in a low scoring thriller played at Reliance Stadium, Vadodra. Railways captain Karn Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. A brilliant bowling effort by Railways bowlers helped them to bowl out Baroda for 201 in their first innings. In reply, Railways could only muster 99 runs to give Baroda a decent lead.

In their second innings, Baroda were bowled out for a paltry total of 98 with Vishnu Solanki the top scorer with 44. With a target of 201 runs to win, Railways were bowled out 101 to give Baroda an important 99 run win.

  1. Madhya Pradesh versus Himachal Pradesh (HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala)

The match between Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh ended in a draw. Madhya Pradesh captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to field first. It was a superb bowling effort by MP bowlers to bowl out HP for 175. In reply, Madhya Pradesh posted 427 for 9.

Himachal Pradesh batsmen provided better resistance in the 2nd innings before rain called off play on the final day.

Group C

  1. Jharkhand versus Jammu and Kashmir (JSCA Stadium, Ranchi)

Jammu and Kashmir registered a commanding an innings and 27 runs win over a strong Jharkhand side at Ranchi. Jharkhand captain Saurabh Tiwary won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not a good performance by the hosts as they were bowled out for 259. In reply, Abdul Samad 128 off 75 balls helped JK post 441.

In their 2nd innings, Jharkhand were bowled out for 155 runs to give Jammu and Kashmir a great win over Jharkhand.

  1. Chhattisgarh versus Haryana (Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur)

Haryana defeated Chhattisgarh by 89 runs played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur. Chhattisgarh captain Jiwanjot Singh won the toss and decided to field first. It was outstanding bowling effort by the hosts who bowled out Haryana for 123 runs in their 1st innings. In reply, Chhattisgarh batsmen failed to make use of the conditions and bowled out for 119.

With a lead of 4 runs in their 2nd innings, Haryana batsmen did a much better job to post 258 runs with contributions from everybody. Chasing a target of 263 runs, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 173 runs in their 2nd innings.

Haryana 6, Chhattisgarh 0.

  1. Services versus Maharashtra (Palam A Stadium, New Delhi)

Services defeated Maharashtra by an innings and 94 runs to register 7 points. Maharashtra captain Naushad Sheikh won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did not pay off as Services bowled out the visitors for a paltry total of 44 runs in the 1st session. In reply, a good batting display by Services helped them to post 285 and a decent lead.

In their 2nd innings, Maharashtra did a better job but was bowled out for 147 runs. Services won the match easily on the 3rd day.

  1. Uttarakhand versus Assam (Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun)

Assam defeated Uttarakhand by an innings and 90 runs played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun. Assam captain Gokul Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. A superb 123 by Riyan Parag helped Assam post 294 runs in their first innings. In reply, Uttarakhand were bowled out for 121 in their first innings and then for 83 in their 2nd innings.

  1. Tripura versus Odisha (Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium, Agartala)

Tripura earned the first innings lead over Odisha. After a long delay due to rain, Odisha captain Senapati won the toss and decided to field first. Thanks to a brilliant century by Milind Kumar, Tripura declared their innings on 288 for 6. In reply, Odisha were bowled out for 121. Deciding to follow on, Odisha ended on 71 for 1.

  1. Bihar versus Mizoram ( Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna)

Bihar produced a remarkable comeback win over Mizoram. Bihar captain Ashoutsh Aman won the toss and decided to field. On the first day, Mizoram was well placed on 310 for 2. Bihar bowlers came back strongly to bowl out Mizoram for 378 runs. In reply, Bihar could only score 262 runs.

Bihar produced a brilliant display to bowl out Mizoram for 68 runs in their 2nd innings. Bihar won the match by 6 wickets.

  1. Goa versus Manipur (Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground, Porvorim)

Goa crush Manipur by an innings and 360 runs. After electing to bowl first, Goa dismissed Manipur for 106 runs in their first innings. In reply, Goa batsmen dominated Manipur and posted a massive total of 553 for 5 declare.

Manipur could not resist much in their 2nd innings also to be bowled out for 88. Goa won the match by an innings and 360 runs.

  1. Meghalaya versus Pudducherry ( Mangaldoi Sports Association Ward No 2, Mangaldoi)

Puducherry defeated Meghalaya in a low scoring thriller played at Mangladoi. After the first day play was washed out due to rain, it was a wicket filled match. Puducherry captain D Rohit won the toss and decided to field first.

A brilliant bowling effort helped Puducherry bowl out Meghalaya for 65 in their first innings. In reply, Puducherry could muster 80 runs to take a 15 runs lead. R Vinay Kumar 5 wicket haul and Sangankal hattrick helped bowl out Meghalaya for 63 in their 2nd innings. Chasing a target of 49 runs to win, they stumbled before winning the match by 5 wickets.

  1. Nagaland versus Chandigarh (Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Dimapur)

The match between Chandigarh and Nagaland ended in a draw. After the first day was washed out, Nagaland captain Zhimoni won the toss and decided to field first. It was a brilliant effort by Chandigarh batsmen as they posted 400 for 6. In reply, Nagaland was bowled out for 135. Chandigarh decided to enforce the follow on.

  1. Sikkim versus Arunachal Pradesh (Vikas Cricket Ground, Bhuvneshwar)

Sikkim registered a first-innings lead over Arunachal Pradesh in a rain-affected game. After Arunachal Pradesh captain Tacho won the toss and decided to field first. A brilliant knock by Yashpal Singh helped Sikkim post 329 and then bowl out Arunachal Pradesh for 146.
