Prithvi Shaw To Be Considered For Mumbai Selection After His Ban Period Gets Over

Prithvi Shaw Biography

Prithvi Shaw: The young opener Prithvi Shaw, who was banned from the game for failing the dope test, is going to complete his ban period later this month and Milind Rege, the chief selector of Mumbai, has made it clear that the 19-year old will be in the frame of selection again.

But, Rege has insisted that Shaw will have to work hard over his fitness. He was out of the game for a long period of time and the selectors will want to know how fit he is.

According to Rege, Shaw wouldn’t be an automatic pick as the players, who played in his absence for Mumbai, performed well. If Shaw has to get back into the squad, he will have to earn it, but his name will surely be considered as he becomes eligible.

“He will be free to play from [November] 16, so of course he will be considered for selection. I can’t make any commitment to whether he will be back, but we will certainly discuss his selection.” Rege was quoted saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Shaw was an established member of the Indian test side when the ban was imposed on him. He had scored a hundred in his debut test series against West Indies and was going to be the first choice test opener on the Australia tour.

But, he sustained an injury in the warm-up game ahead of the start of the Australia test series and had to return home.

He recovered before the home season last year and just as he was about to be drafted back into the Indian squad, the news came out that he was found guilty of using a prohibited substance and the result of his dope test was negative.

Later, it was reported that Shaw hadn’t taken the prohibited substance deliberately. The prohibited substance was actually in a cough syrup that he had used for his illness.

Shaw’s only fault was that he had bought an over-the-counter cough syrup, while the Indian cricketers have been strictly instructed not to buy any over-the-counter medicine without the recommendation of the team doctor.
