In this exceptional feat, Prithvi Shaw achieved a significant milestone by becoming only the third cricketer globally to attain a double century in the history of this tournament. It is worth noting that he surpassed the prior record for the highest individual score, which stood at 206 runs and was achieved by Ollie Robinson in the year 2022.

During the previous edition, both Robinson representing Kent and Ali Orr from Sussex achieved scores of 206 runs apiece, marking the inauguration of double centuries in the tournament.

Shaw’s double hundred was an impressive display, consisting of 25 boundaries and 8 sixes. He accelerated remarkably, requiring a mere 22 balls to transition from the 100-run mark to 150. His ninth century in List A cricket was accomplished in 81 balls, including 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Ultimately, Shaw concluded his innings at a remarkable 244 runs, achieved in 153 balls, embellished with 28 boundaries and 11 sixes. This achievement placed him at the sixth position for the highest individual score in the history of List A cricket.

In his opening match against Gloucestershire, Shaw encountered a distinct dismissal as he was declared out due to hitting the wicket while at 34 runs. Subsequently, in the second game against Sussex, he contributed 26 runs.

Hailing from Mumbai, this dynamic cricketer’s last appearance for India was in a T20I series in January 2023, and his prior appearance dates back to July 2021. However, his ability to maintain consistent performance has faced challenges during the recent domestic season and the Indian Premier League of 2023.

Shaw has now joined an exclusive cohort of big-hitters who have achieved multiple List A double centuries, including India’s captain Rohit Sharma, Australia’s left-handed batsman Travis Head, and Ali Brown.

Shaw’s earlier double century in List A cricket was achieved in February 2021, when he scored an unbeaten 227 runs for Mumbai against Puducherry, a total that held the record at that time.

His score of 244 now stands as the second-highest List A score in England, trailing only behind Brown’s 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.

Remarkably, Shaw currently possesses the accolade of achieving the highest-ever List A score by an overseas player in List A cricket. Additionally, he has accomplished the exceptional feat of becoming the inaugural batsman to secure List A double centuries in two distinct nations while representing two separate teams.

Shaw has surpassed his Indian colleague Cheteshwar Pujara‘s record for the best One-Day Cup score by an Indian, along with eclipsing Sourav Ganguly’s 183 for India in the 1999 Men’s ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka, thereby establishing the highest List A score by an Indian batsman in the context of England.
