Lanka Premier league 2023: Dunith Wellalage bowls a magical spell
In yesterday’s match between Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings, there is no doubt that Dunith Wellalage was the main pillar behind their victory. He ensured to put pressure by taking a couple of wickets, and at the same time, being economical. He was able to get the wicket of the top scorer of the Colombo strikers, and that really helped his team to put pressure on the opponents, from the beginning.

Contribution of Dunith Wellalage:
Colombo strikers were the first to bat, and they batted brilliantly well initially. They were able to get a start of 57 runs only in 7 overs. However, Dunith Wellalage ensured to break the opening partnership, and for that, it was necessary to make it certain that he gets one of the big fish. He got the wicket of Pathum Nissanka.
In the middle overs, Wellalage ensured that he goes on to control the run rate, by not giving any chance to the batters to play their shot. He was successfully able to do that. However, he didn’t get any wickets. In the end, he got the last wicket of the innings in the final over.
He might have taken only 2 wickets, but there is no doubt that his contribution was the most important one, among all the bowlers. That is because his economy was only 3 runs per over. This is a great economy for any bowler, not only in T20, but even in ODI cricket it is a wonderful economy.
Quick-fire opening by Nishan Madushka and Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Openers of the Jaffna Kings ensured that they got a brilliant start. Madushka and Gurbaz, both went on to hit 3 sixes each. That gave the team a start of 58 runs, only in 5.2 overs. No doubt, their contribution was also very important.
With this win, Jaffna Kings are at the number 3 spot. They must ensure to move above in the table, to stay safe from elimination.
